Job Description

We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Group Protection technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping and delivering modern cloud-based solutions while working across the full software delivery lifecycle. You'll contribute to the evolution of our engineering practices, influence technical direction, and help build scalable, secure, and reliable applications that support our customers and colleagues.

Working as part of a collaborative and supportive team, you'll partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders, product owners, and fellow engineers to turn ideas into impactful solutions. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor others, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Owning and evolving services and applications across their full lifecycle
    • Collaborating with product owners and stakeholders to understand business needs and shape technical solutions
    • Designing, developing and deploying scalable applications using modern engineering practices
    • Driving quality through automated testing, observability and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Leading technical problem-solving and supporting incident investigation and resolution
    • Championing secure software development practices and promoting engineering best practice
    • Mentoring and coaching engineers to strengthen team capability and technical excellence
    • Contributing to architectural decisions, reducing technical debt and improving platform sustainability

    Who we're looking for:

    • Strong commercial experience developing software using Java and JavaScript/TypeScript
    • Experience building and supporting RESTful microservices in Spring Boot, Node.js or similar frameworks
    • Solid understanding of cloud technologies, ideally Azure, alongside infrastructure and containerisation tools
    • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices, preferably including GitHub Actions
    • Strong knowledge of software design principles, clean architecture and test-driven development
    • Experience working within Agile environments using approaches such as Scrum or Kanban
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
    • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to a collaborative, inclusive team culture
