Job Description

Are you ready to shape the future of renewable energy by leading high-voltage electrical design across major infrastructure projects – helping connect clean power to the grid and deliver lasting impact across the UK?

At EDF power solutions, we’re delivering an Electric UK and Ireland.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and delivering substation solutions up to 400kV, supporting projects from early development through to construction and commissioning, and helping drive our transition to a net zero future.

The Opportunity

In this Senior Electrical Engineer role, you’ll lead the design and delivery of HV substation primary plant solutions across a growing portfolio of renewable and low-carbon projects. You’ll contribute across the full project lifecycle, influencing technical decisions, maintaining engineering excellence, and supporting safe, efficient delivery.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this role offers flexibility to be based across our #London, #Edinburgh or #Durham offices, with hybrid working available. You’ll work across multiple UK sites, with travel required to support project delivery and collaboration with teams and stakeholders.

You’ll work within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, collaborating with internal teams and external partners, reviewing and approving design deliverables, and acting as a trusted subject matter expert. There’s also opportunity to mentor junior engineers and shape best practice across our engineering capability

Why EDF power solutions?

With technologies spanning onshore and offshore wind, solar, battery storage and green hydrogen, we’re the UK and Ireland’s most diverse renewable generator. By 2035, we aim to deliver 10GW of low-carbon energy – and we’d love you to help us get there.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who is collaborative, detail-focused, and confident working across complex HV infrastructure projects. You’ll bring strong technical expertise and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality engineering solutions. To be shortlisted, you need to offer…

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong experience in AIS and or GIS substation primary plant design up to 400kV
  • Experience delivering transmission and distribution projects up to 400kV
  • Experience working with utility and transmission standards such as National Grid, SPEN or SSEN
  • Experience delivering FEED and detailed design packages, including earthing and lightning design
  • Strong understanding of HV electrical systems and design principles
  • Experience reviewing technical design packages and managing quality assurance of design deliverables

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading HV substation primary plant design across transmission and distribution projects up to 400kV
  • Developing, reviewing and approving design deliverables including layouts, diagrams, and calculations
  • Supporting FEED, detailed design, procurement and construction phases
  • Reviewing system studies and supporting grid compliance activities
  • Managing technical interfaces with suppliers, contractors and network operators
  • Ensuring engineering deliverables meet programme, quality and budget requirements
  • Participating in design reviews, technical workshops and risk assessments
  • Providing technical support during construction and commissioning
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development
  • Promoting safe-by-design principles and contributing to Zero Harm objectives
