The job:

As part of the Pharma Services Group (PSG), the Senior Director, Market Strategy and Development plays a critical leadership role in advancing that mission by developing and executing go-to-market strategies that accelerate commercial growth across our global CDMO portfolio.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, this executive leader is responsible for driving market activation, demand generation, commercial enablement, and thought leadership that expand Thermo Fisher's leadership position across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and emerging biopharma markets. Working in close partnership with Business Development, Commercial Leadership, Operations, and Business Unit leaders, the Senior Director ensures PSG's capabilities are effectively positioned, launched, and promoted to generate qualified pipeline, strengthen customer engagement, and accelerate revenue growth.

The Senior Director leads a global team responsible for translating commercial priorities into integrated marketing strategies that deliver measurable business impact while reinforcing Thermo Fisher Scientific's reputation as the industry's premier CDMO partner.

This role is fully remote (working from home), based anywhere in the UK.  Some international travel will be required – up to 25%, including overnight stays.

What will you do?

                                            

Go-to-Market Strategy & Market Activation

  • Develop and execute global go-to-market strategies aligned with PSG's commercial priorities and growth objectives.
  • Lead commercialization planning for new capabilities, strategic initiatives, and priority growth segments.
  • Develop integrated market activation plans that accelerate customer awareness, engagement, and adoption.
  • Align marketing investments and campaign priorities with commercial objectives to maximize pipeline creation.
  • Ensure consistent global execution of go-to-market strategies across regions and business units.

Demand Generation & Commercial Growth

  • Partner with Business Development and Commercial Leadership to identify priority customer segments, buying centers, and growth opportunities.
  • Develop and execute integrated demand generation programs that create qualified commercial pipeline.
  • Drive multi-channel marketing campaigns that support strategic account growth, customer acquisition, and market penetration.
  • Collaborate with Digital Marketing to optimize campaign performance, lead generation, marketing automation, and customer engagement.
  • Monitor campaign effectiveness and continuously optimize marketing performance using data-driven insights.

Commercial Enablement

  • Develop compelling value propositions and customer messaging that clearly differentiate PSG's integrated CDMO capabilities.
  • Deliver commercial tools, sales enablement resources, and customer-facing content that support Business Development throughout the sales process.
  • Partner with Commercial teams to ensure consistent messaging across customer interactions and commercial campaigns.
  • Support strategic selling initiatives by developing targeted content for key customer segments and therapeutic markets.
  • Enable successful commercialization of new services through coordinated launch plans and customer communications.

Thought Leadership & Industry Engagement

  • Develop and execute thought leadership strategies that position Thermo Fisher Scientific as the partner of choice across the pharmaceutical services industry.
  • Partner with scientific, technical, and commercial subject matter experts to elevate PSG's external presence.
  • Lead PSG participation at major industry conferences, executive forums, customer events, and trade associations.
  • Expand customer engagement through webinars, executive roundtables, digital content, and industry publications.
  • Strengthen PSG's brand awareness and market credibility through integrated communications and external engagement initiatives.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Build strong partnerships across Marketing, Commercial, Business Development, Operations, Technical teams, and Business Units.
  • Drive alignment between commercial priorities and marketing execution to accelerate business growth.
  • Champion Thermo Fisher's Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System to improve marketing effectiveness, operational excellence, and organizational collaboration.
  • Foster a high-performing, customer-focused culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing global Market Development organization.

Business Performance

  • Establish key performance indicators that measure the effectiveness and business impact of Market Development initiatives, including:
    • Marketing-qualified pipeline
    • Marketing-influenced pipeline
    • Lead conversion
    • Campaign ROI
    • Customer engagement
    • Market penetration
    • Strategic account support
    • Brand awareness within target markets
  • Present business performance and strategic recommendations to PSG Executive Leadership.
  • Support Annual Operating Plan (AOP), Strategic Operating Reviews (SOR), and long-range commercial planning processes.

Who we are looking for:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related discipline required.

Essential experience:

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences industries
  • 10+ years CDMO experience required in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated success leading global go-to-market, market development, strategic marketing, or commercial marketing organizations.
  • Proven experience developing and executing integrated marketing strategies that drive pipeline growth and commercial performance.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing, including clinical development, commercial manufacturing, regulatory requirements, and CDMO business models.
  • Experience partnering with Business Development and Commercial organizations to accelerate growth in complex global markets.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives within a highly matrixed organization.
  • Strong executive communication, organizational influence, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred experience:

  • Knowledge of sterile injectables, oral solid dose, biologics, cell and gene therapy, clinical trial services, analytical services, and integrated drug development solutions.
  • Experience leading digital demand generation, marketing automation, CRM strategy, and commercial analytics initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, marketing automation platforms, and digital marketing technologies.
