Job Description

Ready to lead data engineering that powers critical financial decisions at scale? Looking to mentor engineers, drive delivery, and help shape the future of a growing data capability? At EDF, Success is Personal – and this is your opportunity to grow your leadership and engineering career your way.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Data Engineer within the Finance Data Squad, you'll lead the delivery of data products that underpin key financial systems and insights. Your work will directly support business performance, helping Finance make better decisions through high-quality, scalable data solutions.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this role is flexible with occasional travel to our #Exeter or #London offices. You'll benefit from a hybrid approach that supports both focused work and collaborative team engagement.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is still developing its data capability and have a genuine influence on its future direction. You'll work across the full data lifecycle, from ingestion and modelling through to reporting and insight generation, while helping to shape engineering standards, tooling choices and ways of working. Working with large and complex datasets, you'll play a key role in modernising how Finance uses data and analytics to drive business outcomes.

Who You Are

As a Senior Data Engineer, you're an experienced technical leader who combines strong data engineering expertise with the ability to guide and develop others. You're comfortable leading delivery in an agile environment, providing technical direction, and balancing hands-on engineering with mentoring and stakeholder engagement. To be shortlisted, you need to offer…

  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers within agile delivery environments
  • Strong experience designing and delivering end-to-end data solutions, from ingestion and transformation through to reporting and analytics
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL and modern data warehousing technologies, ideally including Snowflake
  • Experience with data engineering and automation tooling such as Python, DBT, CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, data integration and ETL processes
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets within enterprise environments
  • Ability to influence technical decisions and promote engineering best practice
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the delivery of scalable data products that support Finance reporting, analytics and decision-making
  • Acting as a technical lead and mentor, supporting the growth and development of engineers within the team
  • Driving engineering excellence through best practice, automation, testing and continuous improvement
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across Finance, technology and analytics teams to understand requirements and deliver valuable solutions
  • Supporting agile delivery, helping to prioritise work and ensuring successful outcomes against business objectives
  • Working with large and complex datasets to develop reliable, scalable and sustainable data solutions
  • Helping shape the future direction of the Finance data capability, including tooling, standards and ways of working
  • Supporting the operational performance, monitoring and reliability of data platforms
