Role
Are you ready to lead our data and AI platform at one of the world's leading renewable energy businesses? At RES we are looking for a Senior Data and AI Architect and Platform Lead to deliver, run and build our new Microsoft Fabric Azure data and AI platform, and to build the AI agents and AI services that we will deliver.
Reporting to the Head of Data and Analytics, you will own the ongoing strategic and operational design and build of our new Microsoft Fabric and Azure platform. You will continually evolve the architecture, standards and patterns, and lead adoption, working with senior business executives and global IT, data and AI leaders. This is a technical leadership role with accountability for how the organisation builds and operates data and AI capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own strategic direction for the data and AI platform: target-state architecture, governance models, security standards, and scalability decisions, aligned with business strategy.
- Establish the interface between data and AI: design how governed data is modelled and exposed so AI agents can access it reliably; sets and implements standards.
- Lead the design and build of AI agents and services; set evaluation frameworks, testing standards, and monitoring.
- Set technical standards and patterns for the team, train and develop staff in the delivery of agentic AI solutions for data and analytics and our platform. Provide technical authority in Python, SQL, software engineering, code development and LLMs to the data and analytics team; build and review production code to deliver quality engineering solutions.
- Build and own our data platform platform tools, technologies and patterns that enable the team to deliver at scale and efficiently. Identify, evaluate and implement emerging technologies, tools and techniques; bring new capabilities into the team, growing and evolving our global platform and data and AI products.
- Establish and lead cost management data and AI platform; design architecture for optimal efficiency. Ensure best practice is embedded throughout the platform and lead work with vendors and external reviews.
- Partner with Cyber Security to lead safe delivery of work end to end throughout the platform, including with end users.
- Influence senior IT and business leadership: present strategic options, advise on technical priorities, and guide decisions on platform, software engineering and AI investments.
Required Experience
- Demonstrated track record designing and building enterprise data and AI platforms at scale that are used across an organisation to create large scale value and deliver efficiencies.
- Strategic and operational experience setting architecture standards, reference designs, and technical direction in data and AI domains.
- Deep hands-on engineering in Python, SQL, APIs, software engineering and LLMs; demonstrated ability to establish patterns and train and develop others as an SME.
- Production experience managing data and AI platforms, architectures and engineering at scale.
- Proven ability to work with enterprise data platforms, understand and lead data governance, data quality, security and privacy with the data and AI governance Lead.
- Hands-on experience with Azure data and AI tooling (Azure AI Foundry, Azure Machine Learning, Microsoft Fabric); or equivalent on another platform.
- Experience leading the run/BAU for a data and AI platform, managing incidents, triage, SLA's and response and ensuring stability and high uptime.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical decisions and priorities to senior executives and business leaders.
- Strong judgment and a track record in where AI should and should not be used.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data, analytics, or equivalent senior hands-on experience.
- Able to articulate and present to senior business executives and technology leaders and run your own workshops and steering groups.
