This is an exciting opportunity to join our Fraud Analytics team as a Senior Consultant Risk & Controls Partner, where you’ll play a pivotal role as a first-line fraud expert. Working at the heart of Fraud Management, you’ll lead in-depth root cause analysis of fraud cases, identify emerging trends, and collaborate with subject matter experts to continuously strengthen our understanding of fraud risks and controls.

You’ll represent Fraud Analytics across key projects, assessing the impact of change initiatives and ensuring fraud risks are clearly identified, understood, and effectively managed. Partnering closely with stakeholders across Fraud and the wider Protect function, you’ll help shape and enhance our fraud prevention strategies, bringing a strong focus on safeguarding customers and the business during a critical integration programme.

We’re looking for an experienced Risk & Controls professional with deep expertise in economic crime, covering both fraud and financial crime disciplines. You’ll bring the confidence to influence senior stakeholders in a high-change environment, alongside excellent communication and documentation skills, enabling you to deliver clear impact assessments, provide robust regulatory guidance, and strengthen control frameworks where it matters most.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
This is an 18-month Fixed Term Contract.

At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK-wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job, you'll be located at our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites. This is anticipated to be once a month in any of our UK offices. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll take the lead on fast-paced impact assessments across fraud and financial crime, playing a critical part in supporting a major integration programme. Acting as a subject matter expert, you’ll ensure all requirements and controls align with key regulatory expectations across Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) guidance, sanctions, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and fraud frameworks, bringing clarity and confidence to complex change initiatives.

You’ll evaluate the current risk and control environment end-to-end, identifying any gaps, vulnerabilities, and areas requiring remediation. Using this insight, you’ll support the uplift, redesign, and implementation of robust economic crime controls across systems, processes, and operational frameworks, ensuring they are both effective and sustainable in a changing landscape.

Working closely with cross -functional teams, including Governance, Compliance, Technology, Operations, and Programme delivery, you’ll help embed stronger, more resilient controls throughout the integration. You’ll produce clear, well-structured risk assessments and governance documentation for senior stakeholders, ensuring all decisions are transparent, traceable, and supported by comprehensive control design across detection, prevention, and monitoring.

About you

As a minimum, you’ll bring:

  • Deep subject matter expertise in economic crime, with a strong specialism across fraud, AML and sanctions, and the ability to apply this knowledge across complex, evolving risk landscapes

  • Proven experience within Retail and Business Banking control environments, with a clear understanding of how controls operate in practice across different products, channels and customer segments

  • A strong grasp of UK economic crime regulatory frameworks and expectations, enabling you to confidently interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into effective, compliant control solutions

  • Demonstrated experience in risk and control design, including conducting detailed gap assessments and delivering practical, actionable remediation plans that strengthen control frameworks

  • The ability to deliver rapid, high-quality risk assessments, balancing pace with accuracy to support critical integration decisions and ensure risks are clearly understood and mitigated

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to interpreting regulation, policy and data, identifying risks, and designing proportionate, effective mitigations that drive better outcomes

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
