About the Role  

Springer Nature is seeking a Senior Consultant OR Principal Consultant for its highly regarded Nature Research Intelligence business. Nature Research Intelligence advises academic, research funding, government and corporate research organisations on strategies to support their research direction. We aim to grow the socioeconomic impact of research via our consulting services. This is an exciting opportunity as the team is expanding from strong foundations with increasing demand, and we are looking for someone who can deliver research strategy consulting and analytics that will support our customers’ objectives and Springer Nature’s mission to advance discovery.   

As the Senior Consultant OR Principal Consultant, you will work with leading research organisations to understand their needs and create insightful and impactful analysis to support them. You have significant experience in developing research strategies and be able to successfully communicate these in a variety of formats. You will be familiar with bibliometrics, research funding and policy. You will be able to effectively leverage close partnerships with data analysts, data scientists, editors and other colleagues from Springer Nature.   

This is a hybrid role based in Berlin or London. This location supports effective collaboration with the team and aligns with business needs. 

 

Role Responsibilities 

  • Considered an expert in research consulting and a recognized leader in the discipline, leveraging advanced consulting skills and research methodologies to deliver strategic value to customers. 

  • Lead the adoption of consulting best practices within NRI, applying a strong strategic mindset and consulting skills to enhance consulting effectiveness. 

  • Engage with research leaders to generate a pipeline of consulting opportunities through effective persuasion and strong business insights. 

  • Support customers in their journey towards more advanced and predictive analytics by utilizing data analytics / quantitative skills and consulting skills to deliver evidence-based recommendations. 

  • Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on customers’ research strategy, demonstrating a strategic mindset and the ability to manage complexity. 

  • Contribute to the development of NRI strategy through strong business insights and a strategic mindset. 

  • Lead project teams to achieve milestones and objectives through the ability to drive results and communicate effectively. 

  • Manage consulting projects of broad scope that are commercially important, complex, or sensitive, applying consulting skills and the ability to manage complexity. 

  • Influence leadership to ensure alignment with the overall company portfolio and strategy through persuasion and business insights. 

  • Interpret internal and external business issues and recommend best practices by leveraging business insights and consulting skills. 

  • Solve complex problems and identify innovative solutions through data analytics / quantitative skills and the ability to manage complexity. 

  • Work independently and bring clarity and value in highly complex situations through effective storytelling and a strategic mindset. 

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrable several years of experience working in research consulting, higher education, research funding or analytics consulting   

  • Sound working knowledge of analytics and can demonstrate the ability to quickly learn new tools   

  • Significant experience of developing research strategies   

  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities coupled with business acumen   

  • Demonstrable experience in developing and communicating insights, a strong storyteller   

  • Well organized and accurate with good time management   

  • Can demonstrate significant leadership and contributions within previous roles  

  • University degree with a strong analytical/quantitative background or equivalent experience (e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Physics, Computer Science etc.)   

  • PhD is desirable but not essential
