About Us

MarketAxess is on a journey to digitally transform one of the world’s largest financial markets, enabling the shift from analog, phone-based trading to a fully electronic marketplace. Why does this matter? Because our platform makes trading fixed-income more accessible, ultimately improving transparency, efficiency, and competition in the marketplace. Changing the way an established industry transacts is no easy feat. There will be twists and turns, because no one’s ever done this before. But now, more than 2,000 clients around the world rely on our solutions, and that number is only expected to grow in the years ahead. We know where we’re going. How we get there is up to us. Join us and help Take Us There.

The Role

MarketAxess is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to support our EMEA and APAC businesses by providing proactive, commercially focused compliance advisory coverage. This role will act as a key partner to the business, delivering regulatory guidance, supporting strategic initiatives, and serving as a primary point of contact for regulators across multiple jurisdictions.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in helping the firm manage compliance and financial crime risks while enabling continued business growth in a complex regulatory environment.

How You’ll Help Take Us There

  • Serve as the Compliance point of contact for designated business lines and support functions across EMEA and APAC, advising on regulatory and compliance risk matters
  • Provide timely, high‑quality compliance advice to the business, liaising with the Chief Compliance Officer, EMEA & APAC as appropriate prior to issuance
  • Assess regulatory issues and incidents, determine notification requirements, and draft regulatory submissions across EMEA and APAC jurisdictions
  • Lead and support key regulatory interactions, including responding to regulatory enquiries and correspondence
  • Support new business initiatives and regulatory change projects, identifying compliance risks and advising on appropriate mitigating controls
  • Maintain and periodically update firm‑wide risk assessments, ensuring they remain proportionate to the nature, scale, and complexity of the business
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of management information for internal committees, Boards, and senior stakeholders
  • Coordinate closely with local Compliance officers across EMEA and APAC where matters have cross‑regional impact
  • Escalate material compliance issues to the Chief Compliance Officer, EMEA & APAC in a timely manner
  • Track, log, and manage regulatory notifications, ensuring appropriate follow‑up and governance
  • Support the design and delivery of compliance and financial crime training across the business
  • Provide guidance on the application of venue rulebooks and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Contribute to compliance monitoring activities and monitor regulatory developments, sharing relevant updates with stakeholders
  • Manage regulatory applications and support responses to follow‑up questions from regulators
  • Advise the onboarding team on financial crime requirements and support the annual MLRO reporting process

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years’ experience in financial services compliance or a related control function, ideally within regulated trading venues, market infrastructure, or electronic trading environments
  • Strong knowledge of MiFID II, including market structure, algorithmic trading, regulatory reporting, outsourcing, and market abuse frameworks
  • Deep understanding of UK and/or EU financial services regulation; broader international exposure is an advantage
  • Fixed income market experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and regulators
  • Strong commercial judgment, analytical capability, and problem‑solving skills
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and operate effectively under pressure
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including experience mentoring and supporting junior team members
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CRM or project management tools is a plus
  • Ability to incorporate AI into daily workflows; passion for ethical adoption of AI practices
  • Bachelor's degree required
