What You'll Do:

Oversee the planning and execution of all Communications activities, managing a small team and ensuring the successful delivery of press campaigns, media events, and reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with exceptional communication and leadership skills. They will be highly organized, creative, and adept at managing multiple projects and team members. A strong team player, they should possess a thorough understanding of media relations, campaign management, and event planning.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive press campaigns for Frieze fairs, exhibitions, and initiatives.

  • Lead on the creation of press materials, including press releases, briefing notes, and positioning papers.

  • Cultivate relationships with key members of the media and ensure sustained positive coverage.

  • Collaborate with the VP of Communications to fulfill media partnership deliverables (e.g., The Art Newspaper, Financial Times).

  • Manage the planning and execution of media events, including launches, cultivation activities, and key moments at fairs.

  • Oversee workflows with agencies, ensuring briefs are fulfilled, and reports are delivered.

  • Commission and manage photographers, ensuring detailed shot lists are created and executed.

  • Oversee organisation of regular meetings / agendas / action points

Key Tasks

  • Develop and execute detailed press campaigns for fairs and initiatives, including Frieze New York, Frieze London, Frieze Masters, and No.9 Cork Street.

  • Draft and oversee the creation of press materials, including press releases, sales reports, and briefing notes, ensuring timely and accurate distribution.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media partners, and key stakeholders to maximize positive coverage and engagement.

  • Lead on the planning and execution of key media moments, such as fair launches, press briefings, and VIP cultivation events.

  • Commission and manage photographers for events, creating detailed shot lists to ensure comprehensive coverage aligned with strategic goals.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, including Partnerships, VIP, and Programming, to align communications efforts with broader organizational objectives.

  • Recruit, onboard, and manage temporary staff, such as Press Office Managers, during peak periods to ensure smooth operations.

  • Provide training and mentorship to Communications team members, ensuring clear delegation of responsibilities and development opportunities.

  • Ensure internal systems are up to date and effectively utilized for task management and collaboration.

  • Lead post-fair evaluations, working closely with the VP of Communications and external agencies to create comprehensive reports that are clear, actionable, and distributed promptly.

  • Monitor and analyze media coverage, using metrics to assess campaign effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

  • Manage budgets for key communications assets and initiatives, Oversee the allocation of resources for press activities, ensuring expenditures align with campaign goals and deliver value.

  • Track and report on financial performance, maintaining transparency and accountability in all budget-related matters.

You Have These:

  • Degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience

  • Significant experience in a senior communications or public relations role, ideally within the arts or cultural sector.

  • Proven ability to lead high-profile press campaigns and deliver impactful results.

  • Strong media network and experience in managing relationships with journalists and media partners.

  • Experience managing budgets and team members effectively.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in written communications.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, capable of handling tight deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to strategize, problem-solve, and execute projects independently.

  • Strong team player who works collaboratively towards shared goals.
