Position Summary
The Senior Business Development Analyst supports the development of client analytics, research, and data‑driven insights that inform RenRe’s Client Management strategy. This role conducts detailed quantitative analysis of internal and external data to understand client behaviour, reinsurance programs, market positioning, and peer comparisons. As part of the Global Business Development team, the role collaborates with Underwriting and senior stakeholders to deliver reporting, models, insights, and client-facing materials that enhance decision‑making and improve client engagement. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Principal Accountabilities:
Client Data & Insights:
- Support and develop Client Data & Analytics insights to evolve and enhance our Client Management approach (e.g. Stakeholder mapping, Share of Wallet insights)
- Support and evolve our Client Segmentation approach by sourcing data and insights that enable Underwriting leadership to make decisions and execute strategies. Contribute to the deployment of Client Management strategies and delivery of our Value Proposition through effective segmentation
- Support Horizon 0 option building by enhancing client level data and insights that enable client planning and the optimal deployment of client management strategies (e.g. revisiting Platform Client lists, focus segments, Risk Class considerations)
- Conduct detailed quantitative analyses of internal and external data sources to develop insights into clients, their behaviours, and their reinsurance programs, including market and peer-based perspectives
- Complete ad hoc requests for research, analysis, and reporting by pulling from diverse internal and external data sources, applying appropriate analytical methods, and delivering meaningful insights
Reporting & Modelling:
- Produce and enhance core MI / Client Intelligence reports including but not limited to:
- Client comparative analysis based on external data sources
- Actual vs Expected results review of specific clients and groups of clients
- Customer Relationship Management data (contacts, accounts, relationship activity)
- Other reports that arise as our data and tools capabilities expand
- Recommend enhancements for core reporting and opportunities to streamline reporting processes
- Contribute to the design, creation and testing of new client and broker specific reporting and outreach
Strategic Projects & Client Management Support:
- Contribute to the creation of bespoke or ad hoc reporting and presentations in support of client and broker engagement, often in partnership with senior underwriting team members
- Participate in Client and Broker Intelligence processes including but not limited to:
- Platform Client Engagement
- Strategic Broker Engagement
- Contribute to broader Corporate and Underwriting Strategy processes and communication as needed
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work with underwriting Client Leads and Client Analysts to understand their Client and Broker Management data and reporting needs, enhancing how insights are pushed to front-line decision makers
- Work and communicate effectively with Underwriting Client Leads, underwriting teams, and senior management to address client insights requirements
Skills/Knowledge/Experience Necessary:
- Two to four years of experience in an analytical role, preferably in the financial services or insurance industry
- Consulting or underwriting experience would be an asset
- Use in-house systems and external data tools to extract required data (e.g., data cubes, web-based data portals)
- Experience at intermediate to advanced level with S&P Market Intelligence / Capital IQ would be an asset
- Use Microsoft Office products to assist with the analysis and presentation of information
- Excel – intermediate to advanced; ability to use wide range of functions/calculations and create pivot tables
- PowerPoint – intermediate to advanced; ability to create detailed charts from various data sources
- PowerBI – comfortable navigating developed PowerBI dashboards; potential opportunity to work on reporting enhancements in PowerBI Desktop
- SharePoint – intermediate to advanced; ability to manage content
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent self-directed research skills, including the ability to conduct primary research, manipulate large data sets, reconcile data from different perspectives (e.g. underwriting and accounting data), present data clearly, and thrive in the ambiguity inherent in strategic thinking
- Ability to perform independently with minimal supervision
- Adept at communicating with peers inside and outside of the organisation as well as managers and other senior members of staff
- Experience working in a setting where the scope of work may involve multiple people at different levels of seniority
- Actively seeks feedback whilst taking the responsibility to improve skills
- Open to new ideas and ways of thinking
- Can prioritise workload and work flexibly in a time efficient manner
- Works toward team goals and contribute in ways that benefit the entire team
