Senior Backend Engineer / Technical Lead

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer / Tech Lead to design and build scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems for Nexthink Assist, our AI-native product. You'll integrate new capabilities into Assist and customize and enhance the workspace experience that sits at the center of it. 

You will develop core services and infrastructure supporting large-scale data processing, real-time interactions, and integrations across multiple systems. This is a highly collaborative role requiring clear communication, strong technical judgment, and the ability to work effectively across teams. 

You will own significant backend components end to end, set technical direction, and navigate cross-team decisions and disagreements with minimal oversight. 

Responsibilities 

• Design, build, and scale distributed backend systems that serve millions of users. 

• Drive end-to-end delivery of features: from design, implementation, deployment, and monitoring. 

• Architect real-time, low-latency APIs and backend services for AI-driven conversational systems within Assist. 

• Develop cloud-native services in Java, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability. 

• Work on infrastructure components, including AWS-based deployments, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS). 

• Build robust APIs and backend services that power AI-driven products and real-time interactions. 

• Ensure resiliency, fault tolerance, and compliance in high-throughput environments. 

• Collaborate with product managers, infrastructure engineers, and other teams to deliver production-ready systems. 

• Lead technical execution: Break down complex project requirements into actionable tasks, distribute work effectively among team members, and unblock the team to maintain velocity.
   
• Mentor and grow talent: Actively guide junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a collaborative culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and best practices across distributed team setups.
   
• Manage stakeholders: Serve as the primary technical liaison for product managers and cross-functional partners, translating product vision into technical strategy and proactively communicating progress, risks, and architectural trade-offs.

• 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience. 

• Proficient in modern Java (17+). 

• Proven experience designing and scaling backend systems for millions of users or high-throughput real-time services. 

• Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures (AWS or similar), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS). 

• Experience with distributed data systems (e.g., Redis, Apache Kafka). 

• Exposure to LLM integration (prompting, evaluation, observability). 

• Strong background in high availability systems, failover, and resiliency design. 

• Curious mindset with an eagerness to learn and adapt. 

• Excellent knowledge of observability practices: logging, monitoring, tracing, metrics. 

• Strong communication skills in English, able to explain complex technical topics clearly. 

Nice to have 

• Java frameworks knowledge (Micronaut, Spring). 

• Python experience. 

• Performance tuning and scaling experience in high-throughput environments. 

• Familiarity with GitOps, CI/CD, IaC.
