Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Analytical Scientist to join our Innovation team in Fordham.

This is not a routine testing role. Working at the forefront of analytical science, you'll combine your expertise in LC-MS with scientific curiosity and problem-solving to tackle emerging analytical challenges, develop novel detection methods, and create new analytical capabilities that have a real-world impact.

From supporting anti-doping programmes and elite sport to advancing analytical solutions for specialist testing applications, you will play a key role in helping shape the future direction of our laboratory and testing services.

If you enjoy developing new methods, solving complex scientific problems, and applying innovative thinking to analytical science, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop, optimise, and validate novel analytical methods using LC-MS technologies.
  • Design and improve extraction techniques, sample preparation approaches, and analytical workflows.
  • Configure, operate, troubleshoot, and optimise LC-MS instrumentation to generate high-quality analytical data.
  • Analyse and interpret complex datasets to identify trends, solve analytical challenges, and support scientific decision-making.
  • Lead and contribute to innovation projects focused on developing new detection capabilities and responding to emerging analytical challenges.
  • Collaborate with scientific and operational teams to develop, evaluate, and implement new analytical solutions.
  • Support the transfer of new methods and technologies into routine laboratory operations.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality, accuracy, and delivery against agreed timelines.
  • Produce clear scientific documentation, including validation reports, technical summaries, and project updates.
  • Present scientific findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Provide technical expertise during customer discussions and contribute to the development of analytical solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory operations, analytical methods, and scientific processes.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements and established quality standards.

Qualifications

You are an experienced analytical scientist with a passion for method development, innovation, and solving complex scientific problems.

Essential

  • Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • Significant experience working within an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Strong practical experience with LC-MS instrumentation, including method development, optimisation, troubleshooting, and validation.

  • Experience within a commercial testing, contract laboratory, or regulated laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 accreditation standards and quality systems.
  • Experience with high-resolution accurate mass (HRAM) technologies, including Orbitrap platforms.
  • Experience working with GC-MS/MS instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of anti-doping, sports medication control, toxicology, forensic science, or supplement testing.
  • Experience presenting scientific findings to customers or external stakeholders.
