Sony Pictures’ EMEA Distribution Research team is focused on Sony Pictures’ content sales, local networks and transactional home entertainment businesses. The team delivers impactful insight from both audience and industry perspectives, utilising a deep toolkit of third-party datasets and custom primary quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The EMEA Distribution Research team is part of the wider EMEA Distribution Marketing & Research organisation. The role works across Feature Films, Scripted and Unscripted TV shows.

This position plays an important role in providing strategic analysis to Sony’s businesses in the EMEA region and highlights the growing importance of data-driven-insight within the organisation. Based in London, the position will work across multiple markets and projects across all aspects of the team's focus areas. There will be a specific focus on Consumer Insight, producing industry landscape and audience research in support of Sony’s Business Development, Direct-to-Consumer channels and Home Entertainment businesses across the EMEA region.

The role will be focused on projects involving: consumer behaviour, landscape trends, linear and digital direct-to-consumer brands, transactional and subscription models and large content licensing agreements.

What you'll do:

  • Direct-to-Consumer channels – act as the key point person in Research on D2C channels. (e.g. YouTube, Amazon Channels, FAST, Sony Pictures Core, etc.) Understand the performance metrics, input to new analytics and share best practices around the region, collaborating with local Research leads.
  • Collaborate heavily with the Business Development team, ensuring they have visibility of key market trend data and forecasts that can underpin new business modelling, planning and investigation.
  • Home Entertainment – connect to the regional Home Entertainment team an input into the Insight-led-selling agenda.
  • Work independently with a great deal of autonomy, while collaborating with Research team-mates in other locations to enhance the flow of industry themes and insights between all Research colleagues.
  • Thoroughly understand third-party datasets, custom primary techniques, and focus on utilising the toolkit for business impact.
  • Maximise the value of research through impactful communication with colleagues, key client and industry-wide initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with internal business partners and stakeholders, third-party suppliers and industry peers.

What you have:

  • Typically, 2-5+ years’ experience in a similar role or within a relevant media industry. Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of audience behaviours specifically related to these markets.
  • Expertise in producing and delivering concise and well-messaged presentations to all levels of an organisation and in client/external meetings.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic direction using a combination of designed and commissioned research and third-party datasets.
  • Experience in managing deadlines and collaborating across functions in a media organisation.
  • Passion for the film and television industry, particularly Hollywood movies and U.S. TV series and in-depth knowledge of local market consumption behaviours and key players – crucially in the video-on-demand space.
  • Advanced MS PowerPoint and Excel skills with the demonstrated ability to use complex formulas and pivot tables. Competency using, or interest in, data visualisation tools (specifically Tableau) and working with large data sets to derive business insights. Engaged with GenerativeAI developments in the context of Research applications.
