The opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our International Finance function - they're responsible for the financial, regulatory, and business reporting of Markel International and its subsidiaries. It is part of Markel Group’s Global Finance Department.

This role will provide senior level support & insights concerning expense reporting and management at Markel International.

What you’ll be doing:

Management of “downstream expense information”: including the provision of actual and forecast expense information to International’s Actuarial team, to support reserving & pricing and to International’s Capital Management team to support capital model calculations and business unit performance targets.

Management Information Provision: Delivering high-quality and timely Management Information that summarizes expense performance against plan, prior year, and strategic priorities. This will include presenting and providing key insights and explanations to a wide range of stakeholders, including Executive Management & Senior Business Leaders.

Timely Expense Performance Responses: Addressing all queries related to expense performance accurately and in a timely fashion.

Business Planning Support for International’s shared & support services: Ensuring timely receipt of necessary inputs from cost centre owners to support International’s business planning cycles. Facilitating effective “play-back” to cost centre owners to ensure ownership of final business plans.

Support and oversight of cost allocations at International: Ensuring allocations are being executed as expected, investigating variances and periodically reviewing business drivers for the allocation calculations.

Support for Continuous Process Improvement & Sophistication: Identifying, articulating & implementing opportunities to improve expense reporting efficiencies and enhancements to management information.

Support International’s direct tax computations: Providing expense related information as and when required

Our must-haves:

  • Qualified or qualified by experience accountant.

  • Detailed knowledge of expense reporting and management ideally in the insurance industry.

  • Experienced with working in a large team of Finance professionals responsible for the business reporting of a Global business.

  • Excellent data handling and manipulation skills, experience with data workflow tools such as Alteryx would be very useful but not essential.

  • Keenness to learn new skills that can be applied to the role.
