If you’re a part-qualified actuary with pricing experience and a strong commercial mindset, we’d love to hear from you. Join us and use your expertise to help shape how we price, compete and grow across our Individual Annuity business.
Who are we?
We’re Standard Life, a retirement specialist focused entirely on retirement savings and income. We champion the belief that everyone’s journey to and through retirement can be better, and for more than 200 years, we’ve been helping our customers plan and prepare for their financial futures.
Life today is increasingly complicated, uncertain and unpredictable. People move through different careers, face unexpected moments and navigate important choices. We offer our colleagues flexibility, trust and benefits that work for whatever life brings. In return we expect curiosity, connection, accountability and high standards. We make room for what matters - so you can bring your best, every day.
The Opportunity
If you’re a part-qualified actuary looking to build your career in pricing, this is an opportunity to work at the heart of Standard Life’s Individual Annuity business, using your actuarial expertise and commercial judgement to influence pricing decisions, customer outcomes and our position in the market.
Joining our Individual Annuity Pricing team, you’ll gain hands-on exposure across our Lifetime and Fixed-Term Annuity products, combining market insight, customer behaviour and actuarial analysis to help shape how we compete and grow.
It’s a role with plenty of breadth and opportunity to make an impact. You’ll analyse how our products are performing, understand what’s happening across the market and turn complex data into meaningful commercial insight. You’ll also contribute to the development of our pricing approach, assumptions, tools and products, building both your technical expertise and broader commercial understanding as your career develops.
Key Responsibilities
You'll play an important role in helping us understand performance, respond to the market and make well-informed pricing decisions. Here are some of the key responsibilities you’ll undertake:
Analyse pricing competitiveness and market insight, identifying opportunities to balance customer value, competitiveness and profitability
Produce pricing MI and turn data into clear commercial insight and recommendations
Implement pricing changes within production environments, ensuring accuracy and appropriate controls
Support the development and review of pricing bases and assumptions
Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of our Lifetime and Fixed-Term Annuity products
Undertake pricing calculations and analyse proposition, market and business data to support decision-making
Make recommendations to senior colleagues based on your analysis and emerging market insight
Identify and implement opportunities to improve our tools, processes and overall pricing capability
Collaborate with colleagues across the business, developing your understanding of how pricing decisions support our wider commercial ambitions
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone with strong actuarial foundations, commercial curiosity and the appetite to continue developing.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Part-qualified actuarial status, with relevant insurance experience and a commitment to achieving full qualification, which we’ll support you with
- Experience and a good understanding of pricing within a retail flow business; individual annuity pricing experience is particularly valuable
- An understanding of key pricing metrics and relevant regulatory frameworks, including Solvency II and IFRS
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, coupled with a practical problem-solving mindset
- The ability to turn analysis and complex information into clear insights and recommendations
- Strong working knowledge of tools such as Excel, VBA and Power BI
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to build relationships across different teams
- A proactive and curious approach, with a desire to continue building both your technical and commercial knowledge
We want to hire the whole version of you.
We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If your experience looks different from what we’ve advertised and you believe that you can bring value to the role, we’d love to hear from you.
If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process, please let us know so we can help you to be at your best.
We’re reviewing applications as they come in, so apply early to avoid missing out.
