The European Sales team at Marqeta is looking to expand our sales footprint in Europe to focus on some of the largest and most impactful commercial opportunities in Marqeta’s evolving business.

The customers in focus include all traditional and digital banking organisations, as well as large scale fintechs, fintech innovators and companies who are looking to take control of and expand their card programme offerings to their customer base - essentially those looking for solutions to launch, scale and continuously evolve their banking products and services.

This exciting role is ideal for individuals seeking to go deep in all aspects of complex business and technical engagements and will span multiple areas of development:

  • Cultivating and managing relationships with executives and entrepreneurs seeking to innovate and disrupt B2B & consumer payments;

The Talent team will share more details if selected for the "Recruiter" Interview. We'd love for you to join us!

The Impact You’ll Have

Marqeta’s Senior Account Executive role focuses on generating and closing significant new opportunities whilst playing a strategic role in setting the vision for the business:

  • Qualify leads and prioritise customer opportunities: Serve as the primary point of contact for enterprise and strategic level prospects by identifying their needs and requirements, responding to requests for information, and vetting them against our current and future product offering.
  • Run a Complex Sales Process: Independently manage highly strategic customer opportunities through the full sales process, from initial engagement and complex pricing discussions through to final contract negotiations. You will also be responsible for partnering with your team to grow existing accounts and managing opportunities across various stages in Salesforce.
  • Contracting Leadership: Take ownership of guiding both inbound and outbound opportunities through the contracting process, working seamlessly with our Legal team on negotiation and execution.
  • Leverage Technical Expertise: Utilise your existing, deep understanding of Marqeta’s technical capabilities, unique features and customer benefits to speak with confidence, knowledge, and credibility about the value we bring to customers and prospects.
  • Sell the Partnership Vision: Lead the development of proposals and expert responses to RFIs/RFPs in collaboration with internal subject matter experts (SMEs), articulating what makes Marqeta’s platform and service offering exceptional and differentiated.

Who You Are

  • Minimum of 10+ years of sales experience, ideally within payments, Fintech, or complex B2B technology.
  • Mandatory Payments Expertise: A critical, demonstrable understanding of the payments ecosystem is essential for success in this role. We require candidates to possess deep payments and card experience, and no applicants without this background will be considered. Bonus points for comprehensive knowledge of the issuer-processing ecosystem.
  • Comfort with the unknown. We’re building a world-class platform but must manage the expectations of both internal and external stakeholders. Our product roadmap is also constantly changing to reflect evolving strategy and the competing needs of our customers.

You will need to understand the basics of how SaaS and platform technology companies work, and be able to communicate technical and product benefits to both sophisticated and unsophisticated buyers.
  • Financial Acumen. The payments business and calibre of customer relationships necessitate complex deal structures. We’re looking for an individual who is comfortable and capable of evaluating and modelling customer proposals and resulting contract financial models.
  • Confidence in serving as the face of Marqeta for prospective customers and partners who may comprise C-suite executives and entrepreneurs.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage, and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously; highly motivated and able to work against aggressive schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work cross-functionally to deliver on the customer’s needs.
  • Superior communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, email, and presentation) with the ability to successfully orchestrate the sales process by managing the time and resources of the team and specialist partners.
