Santander Consumer Finance (SCUK) is a leading global player in the consumer finance business and is based in Redhill, Surrey, and we are pleased to share we are currently looking for a Head of People and Culture.

In this crucial role you will be responsible for the delivery of the strategic people and culture agenda and you will partner with ExCo colleagues to create a healthy, sustainable environment for our people.

Please note this is a hybrid-based role, with a minimum of three days a week working in the Redhill office. Remote workers will not be considered.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the SCUK People & Culture teams (Business Partners, Recruitment, Culture, Talent management, Learning & Development)
  • Developing high performing teams with expert knowledge and skills through on-going coaching and use of talent initiatives, succession planning and career discussions
  • Engages with the recognised trade union colleagues as needed and builds rapport. Is the point of escalation for the union to contact for any questions or concerns relating to SCUK
  • Partnering with key stakeholders across Santander who provide shared services
  • Working collaboratively with all business areas to identify and deliver People & Culture initiatives supporting colleague development and a positive customer experience, aligned to the Strategic Blueprint and wider Santander ambitions
  • Responsible for regularly assessing SCUK’s existing and future state culture through deep analysis, insights and data, translating this into focus areas for action that drive value and business strategic success
  • Implements SCUK’s strategy and evaluation methodology to embed DE&I in everything we do – driving value back to the business, good customer outcomes and shaping organisational culture
  • Supports the CEO in developing and delivery of a people and organisational design strategy that embeds values and TEAMS behaviours to maximise colleague engagement and deliver SCUK’s objectives
  • Leads the Facilities function and all matters relating to the building and ongoing running of it including relationship management with 3rd party suppliers, contractors and onsite Engineer
  • Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our Customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection

What we’re looking for:

  • Extensive experience in a senior leadership role with accountabilities across the HR function
  • Experience of operating at a senior manager level within an organisation and managing a team of experienced professionals
  • Understanding the importance of the team’s key deliverables and oversight of how these link to ensure a joined up approach across the business
  • Deep knowledge of the business areas the role supports, including its strategic targets, operating models and regulatory landscape
  • Excellent understanding of the external context in which SCUK operates
  • A strategic thinker with extensive experience applying commerciality and judgement to internal and market information
  • Experience in organisation wide HR interventions requiring complex levels of decision making and matrix management
  • Ability to develop external networks (including San UK) and uses these to enhance the People & Culture function
  • Strong and effective communication skills with the ability to interact and influence senior management on equal terms, up to board Level
  • Experience in successful change programmes
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting interests and deadlines
  • Experience of handling high value budgets with a proven track record of successful budgetary oversight and control
  • Experience in contributing to the HR strategic agenda and operational practices as part of the senior leadership team
  • Membership or affiliation to HR related professional bodies or groups
  • A CIPD qualification is essential
