The role

We have a market leading reputation for producing bespoke solutions for niche customer groups managed by our broker partners. Within the wider Schemes team, we deliver Schemes (Delegated Authorities and MGA) solutions across the UK retail business.

Lead the development and delivery of analytics to enable profitable growth of the Hiscox UK Schemes and MGA portfolio, providing data‑driven insights, modelling, and governance to support active, sustainable portfolio management across delegated authority business. You’ll work across the existing portfolio of business as well as analysing new opportunities. You will have responsibility for shaping and delivering our Schemes performance and portfolio management strategy in support of driving improvement and profitable growth to our Schemes and MGA portfolio, playing an integral part in realising our ambitions of growing the portfolio in line with our strategic plans.  

You will report directly to the Head of Pricing and Portfolio Management. You’ll work with the wider Schemes Team across underwriting, operations and sales. You will work closely with the wider Hiscox UK business including the Heads of Underwriting, and the Chief Underwriting Officer to ensure alignment with wider Hiscox UK strategy.

What you’ll be doing:

1. People Management and Team Development

  • Manage and develop a team of 3-4 Schemes and MGA analysts. Set and manage the team’s priorities in alignment with and to support the wider Schemes and MGA team business objectives.

  • Coach analysts in technical skills, commercial acumen, and stakeholder management, sharing your own experience and expertise to support their development

  • Actively collaborate with the Pricing and Portfolio Management team to build on and enhance existing analytical and modelling frameworks to establish best practice for Schemes and MGA analytics.

2. New Deal & Existing Scheme/MGA Oversight

  • Deploy analytical skills to assess new Schemes and MGA’s

  • Provide an independent review and recommendation for senior underwriting management on large existing Schemes and MGA’s

  • Apply knowledge of the regulatory environment to all portfolio decisions and ensuring recommendations result in our customers being treated fairly and consistently in line with Hiscox values

3. Active Portfolio Management and Steering

  • Working in conjunction with our wider Schemes and MGA Leadership Team you will be responsible for the design, creation and production of visualisation tools in support of our Active Performance and Portfolio Management ambitions

  • Identify trends and providing insights for recommended performance improvement to deliver performance objectives of our existing Schemes and MGA Portfolio

  • Proactively identify and action the necessary portfolio performance strategies that will deliver the plan and support our vision

  • Develop and execute the Schemes and MGA performance and portfolio management strategies to support the business with data driven decision making and ensure the successful delivery of our Schemes and MGA Sector profitable growth targets

4. Data, MI & Reporting Leadership

  • Working in conjunction with the wider Hiscox UK data teams you will be responsible for the identification and assessment of external datasets, and the design and creation of our internal data standards

  • Work with and support the design and implementation of new technologies – including cloud-based data warehouses, data-visualisation products, and new underwriting software for the business

Our must-haves:

  • Leadership experience managing and developing analytical, pricing or portfolio management teams, with the ability to prioritise workload and maximise team effectiveness

  • Experience partnering with senior underwriting, pricing and business stakeholders to shape portfolio strategy and influence business performance

  • Strong insurance market experience with exposure to Schemes, MGAs, Portfolio Management, Pricing or Underwriting Performance Management

  • Demonstrates significant experience leading the development and execution of portfolio management and performance strategies, driving business growth, profitability and portfolio optimisation

  • Significant experience within Schemes, MGA, Portfolio Management or Pricing environments, operating at a senior level and influencing commercial outcomes

  • Proven understanding of portfolio pricing, actuarial reserving and performance management methodologies

  • Proven proficiency in the use of data management and analytical tools including Python, R and SQL and data visualisation tools including Power BI

  • Experience in designing and enhancing analytical frameworks to support performance and portfolio management and inform strategic direction

  • Proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights, identifying trends and driving evidence-based recommendations

  • Excellent numerical and analytical capability with strong data manipulation skills

  • Sound judgement and decision-making ability in complex and ambiguous environments

  • Strong and proactive interpersonal and management skills and ability to operate in a collaborative environment

  • Results driven, ability to make decisions and operate on own initiative

  • Ability to execute and influence at all levels both internally and externally

  • Open to new ideas, innovation and educated risk taking

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to articulate the complex to technical and non-technical audiences
