As the Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Markets Business, you will be responsible for setting and executing the technical vision for mission-critical platforms that serve thousands of users across global Sales and Research functions. You will lead a diverse organization of over 60 engineers, architects, and product managers, directly managing multiple teams and promoting large-scale transformation initiatives. This role is pivotal in ensuring our platforms deliver seamless workflows, transactional efficiency, and innovative solutions that keep JPMorgan Chase at the forefront of financial services.
You will partner closely with senior business leaders, product owners, and technology management to align our engineering strategy with business objectives, championing best-in-class practices and fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Your leadership will be instrumental in promoting the adoption of modern architectures, cloud-native solutions, and agile delivery models, while ensuring operational stability, scalability, and regulatory compliance.

Job responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Defines and communicates the technical vision and architectural roadmap, ensuring alignment with Markets Business strategy and firmwide technology objectives.
- Transformation & Delivery: Leads the design, development, and deployment of complex, cross-departmental technology solutions, driving modernization, automation, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Organizational Management: Directly manages multiple engineering teams, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management for a diverse group of technologists.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serves as a key interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, and executives, building consensus and driving decision-making across competing priorities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Orchestrates large-scale, cross-product collaborations, managing multiple stakeholders and complex project portfolios to deliver high-impact outcomes.
- Technical Excellence: Champions engineering best practices, cloud-native architectures, and modern software development methodologies, ensuring platforms are robust, scalable, and secure.
- Talent Development: Attracts, hires, and retains top talent; foster a culture of learning, innovation, and recognition; and promote diversity and inclusion across the organization.
- Risk & Compliance: Ensures all technology solutions adhere to regulatory requirements, operational risk standards, and cybersecurity best practices.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and expert applied experience
- Proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams in a large scale, matrix organisation
- Solid background in financial services or other highly regulated industries, with knowledge of at least one Markets asset class (Equities, FX, Commodities, Rates, Repos, Credit, Spreads)
- Experience working at the code level, with an excellent understanding of software development lifecycles and agile methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to influence and drive outcomes across multiple business lines, product teams, and technology domains
- Track record of delivering large-scale, mission-critical technology projects, with expertise in system architecture, design, testing, and operational stability
- Extensive hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and modern software engineering practices
- Proven people leadership skills, with experience in hiring, developing, and recognizing high-performing talent
- Formal training or certification in software engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline
- Deep expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
