Job Description
We are looking for a Research Analyst to join Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables Research team, covering European long-term power markets. The Power and Renewables Research Team is a highly respected group of analysts producing market-leading research across the value chain, covering power markets, onshore and offshore wind, solar PV and energy storage. Our cutting-edge knowledge of market dynamics combined with our understanding of renewable power supply chains, costs, deployments, and investment trends enables us to support our client’s commercial and strategic decisions amid a period of unprecedented change for the energy industry.
This role will provide analytical, research and modelling support to our long-term power markets team, providing an excellent opportunity for you to expand and deepen your understanding of market dynamics in the region. As one of our Research Analysts, you will collaborate with different teams across our power and renewables research group, to learn from industry experts and build your knowledge across the sector. Key responsibilities in this role will include the collection and analysis of industry information and data, identification of market trends, production of robust forecasts, and presentation of insightful and compelling research to our clients. You will also need to work with other parts of our research business, and with our sales, marketing and consulting teams to support the ongoing commercial success of the business.
About you and how you can excel in this role
You are intellectually curious, collaborative, well-organised, and have a keen eye for detail. You also need to be focussed on providing a great service to our clients and committed to the growth and improvement of our research.
You’ll have exceptional analytical/quantitative skills, including experience of modelling or commercial analysis in power markets, gained at a utility, developer, consultancy/research provider, university or other markets/investment focussed organisation. You should be comfortable working with large datasets, databases and APIs, and the tools necessary to handle and analyse them, such as Python, SQL and Power Query. Experience of optimization models is an advantage.
Knowledge of one or more of Europe’s major power markets and the enablers/implications of decarbonisation in the sector is highly desirable, as is familiarity with key commercial frameworks – such as support/incentives regimes, power purchase agreements, capacity and ancillary markets – and energy policy. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills in English – with fluency in other European languages beneficial.
If you’ve gained experience in an entry-level role in the sector and are now ready to take the next step in your career, we’d like to talk about how you can continue your development with us.
