Project Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Your New Role: Project Engineer

Based in the Global Outdoor Operations team and reporting to the Technical Director, this role supports our major CAPEX projects.

As a electrical / multi-disciplined Project Engineer with experience in NEC contracts and the TfL, rail, or construction sectors, you’ll play a crucial role in assisting Project Managers with technical support and assurrance

You’ll review and co-ordinate technical elements, manage design and quality assurance, and oversee on-site engineering as needed.

You will be focused on the TfL IMPACT programme, potentially working across other sectors, you’ll ensure compliance with technical and regulatory standards, collaborating with stakeholders, contractors, and other engineering specialists.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Engineer at Global, you will:

Engineering / Assurance – Design Management and Coordination

  • Review designs and ensure the designs meet compliance to the required standards

  • Assist Project Manager(s) to align technical aspects with project objectives.

  • Track technical / engineering progress, identify delays, and implement mitigation.

Technical Design Review and Implementation (elec / comms Bias)

  • Review and approve electrical and comms designs with some knowledge of civils.

  • Ensure compliance with TfL, Rail, Airport and other industry standards (as appropriate)

  • Approve or adjust designs based on project needs and site conditions.

Site Inspection and Quality Control

  • Conduct site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to design.

  • Resolve on-site technical issues efficiently, ensuring safety and quality.

Stakeholder and Contractor Engagement

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align requirements and manage expectations.

  • Communicate technical needs, clarify details, and ensure accurate execution.

What Success Looks Like 

  • Build collaborative relationships with the project team and contractors.
  • Establish effective review processes for design quality and technical accuracy.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Global Outdoor's program goals. 

What You’ll Need

  • Project Delivery: Proven experience in providing technical review / assurance in project delivery (civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering).

  • A good practical knowledge of project management practices and ideally be certified/qualified at a practitioner level – Prince2 or equivalent

  • Construction & Commissioning: Skilled in managing technical compliance in construction, installation, and commissioning in (ideally) TfL, roadside, highway, or rail environments.

  • Standards Compliance: Demonstrated ability to deliver projects in line with British Standards for electrical design.

  • Capital Expenditure: Successfully worked within a large CAPEX projects / rollouts.

  • Adaptability & Composure: Agile, composed under pressure, effective in challenging situations.

  • Contractor & Supplier Management: Skilled in managing contractor and supplier relationships, resolving disputes, ensuring project harmony.

  • Communication Skills: Strong communicator with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.

  • Attention to Detail & Time Management: Meticulous with strong time management skills.

Qualifications:

  • B Eng Degree in Electrical / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering.
  • SMSTS certification (beneficial)
  • NEBOSH qualification (beneficial)
  • In-depth understanding of CDM Regulations 2015, including safety-focused site management and audits (Ideal)
  • Chartered / Member status in a relevant profession (desirable)
  • NEBOSH or IOSH (desirable)
  • NEC or similar framework experience (desirable)
