This role will support building the political and institutional frameworks to make the necessary changes possible in the fields of industry and trade.

Background

E3G is the world lead strategist think tank on the political economy of climate change with a global outlook. We work on the frontier of the climate landscape tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate for all. We translate climate politics, economics and policies into action. We pride ourselves on bringing independence to an extremely polarised discussion and holding policy makers to account on their promises. E3G is consistently ranked as one of the top-ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tank Index.

E3G is dedicated to fostering an engaging work environment with a competitive remuneration package in the non-profit sector. E3G offers a dynamic and fast paced working environment that will value your insight and initiative wherever you are in the organisation. We take pride in our team's commitment, supportiveness, and friendliness. We invest in our staff, offer flexible working conditions and pride ourselves on being an open and collaborative workplace.

Role Overview

This Programme Lead role will oversee E3G’s efforts to accelerate the industrial transition globally, working across major economies and leading industrial producers and consumers to drive down emissions in heavy industry, while also supporting industrial development in low-income countries so that growth and decarbonisation go hand in hand. This reflects a core strategic challenge: ensuring the transition happens at scale in existing industrial centres, while enabling emerging economies to industrialise on a low-carbon pathway from the outset. The programme of work is inherently international in scope and design, but connects to E3G’s work across key geographies, particularly in Europe, China, India, and the UK, to shape global systems change.

You will play an essential role to lead, shape, coordinate, and manage multi-year initiatives to accelerate industrial decarbonisation internationally. The role requires working across the organisation with other teams and building strategic partnerships and strong relationship management across governments, multilaterals, and non-state actors to drive climate outcomes within a complex geopolitical landscape.

The successful candidate will be both entrepreneurial and team-oriented. The role will require a strong interest in the cross-cutting institutions and polices needed to deliver ambitious climate action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership, management, and structure to the Global Industry project portfolio, ensuring strategic coherence, risk management, and delivery against objectives and KPIs.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a multi-location team, fostering a collaborative culture and ensuring high performance through regular reviews, capacity-building, and professional growth plans.
  • Design, implement, and be accountable for the oversight of comprehensive workplans, budgets, and resource allocations, including funder relationship management and reporting.
  • Develop expertise and profile and contribute thought leadership inside and outside E3G on industrial transition, to ensure E3G remains at the cutting edge of climate action.
  • Develop relationships and engage with partners, networks, actors, and experts relevant to delivering outcomes. Build and manage a network of key stakeholders including representatives of the private sector, key institutions, government, and civil society.
  • Manage set up, delivery, tracking and reporting of a portfolio of grants including planning, allocating and overseeing resources and work, working with the team to set objectives and priorities, and ensuring risk management and course correction in response to emerging challenges and opportunities.
  • Plan and engage in fundraising in this area in cooperation with the Associate Director, including forging relationships with key funder contacts and monitoring emerging funding opportunities, as well as expanding the geographic scope of E3G’s Clean Economy petal.
  • Represent the organisation externally with partners, funders and with media and in public forums as appropriate.
  • Represent E3G at international forums and conferences and in bilateral meetings with senior-level policymakers and thought leaders. Some travel will be required.
