The Role: The Climate Solutions product team oversees product development, innovation, and execution of the Morningstar Sustainalytics' climate product portfolio. The Climate Solutions team is seeking a new team member who is passionate about climate action and wants to leverage their experience in financial services and/or responsible investing. The aim is to support the development, commercialization, and maintenance of a suite of strategically important research products that meet investor needs for measuring climate risks and opportunities.
The Product Manager will be responsible for supporting the development of new product features, supporting clients and sales teams to achieve commercial goals and collaborating with internal teams to build robust and efficient operational processes that improve and ensure product quality.
Overall, this multifaceted role requires someone who excels in a dynamic environment, is a creative problem solver and a team player. The ideal candidate has experience in product development, ESG research, Climate data & analytics or in the application of ESG and impact research in investment processes. Additionally, hands-on experience or background in GHG Emissions data and regulatory disclosures as well as knowledge of the GHG Protocol and Carbon Disclosures are a must-have for this role.
You will join a dynamic and strategically important team and contribute to the development of a vibrant community of product managers at Morningstar Sustainalytics.
What You'll Do

  • Support and provide inputs for the product vision, strategy and roadmap for carbon emissions solutions, translating insights into actionable product enhancements, aligned with market needs.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities and trends.
  • Work closely with engineering, design, and data science teams to develop and launch new features and ensure product alignment with other ESG research products and ratings.
  • Monitor product performance and iterate based on user feedback and data insights. Provide product and client support where needed.
  • Support and maintain the product, overseeing research and data activities to ensure the product and solutions are up-to-date and meeting client commitments.
  • Engage in client presentations, demos, and creating slides and product materials to demonstrate the value and utility of climate products.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive product documentation.
  • Provide thought leadership to showcase product value, including written and in-person/virtual activities.
  • Build frameworks related to the product and regulatory use cases, and maintain partnerships (with organizations such as IIGCC, IPR, etc) and support brand development activities.


    Who You Are

    • Minimum of 4-5 years of relevant work experience. Proven experience in product management, preferably in the ESG, investment management or the sustainability sector.
    • Master's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Science, Business, Engineering, Finance). Advanced degree or certifications in sustainability or related areas is a plus - such as GHG Protocol or CFA certifications.
    • Strong knowledge of carbon emissions metrics, reporting standards, and regulatory requirements and frameworks within the Investment management and ESG sector.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to deal with data on a large scale, perform data analysis and create data insights. Meticulous attention to detail and very well organized.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work cross-functionally with ease and manage competing interests in order to deliver strategic projects efficiently and on time.
    • Familiarity with ESG ratings frameworks and methodologies. Good understanding of investment management and portfolio management.
    • Knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools. Hands-on experience performing data analysis, data modelling and building reporting that leverages data & tools.
    • Technical knowledge and expertise are advantageous; understanding the technical aspects of product development and experience working with technical teams.
