Wordsmith

Most legal teams are drowning. They’re buried under internal questions, contract reviews, policy approvals, and constant fire drills.

Wordsmith is the AI command centre for in-house legal. We automate the chaos — intake, Q&A, redlines, drafting, and research — so legal teams can operate at the speed of business.

We’re building AI-native products that rethink how legal work gets done, not just improve existing tools.

Why this role is different

Design at Wordsmith is not about polishing edges. It’s about defining how complex, AI-driven workflows actually work for users.

You’ll be designing products where the behaviour is not always fixed, the inputs are messy, and the outcomes need to feel simple and reliable.

AI is part of how we build. Designers here use it to explore ideas, prototype quickly, and think beyond traditional UI patterns.

You’ll work closely with engineers and product managers to shape both the problem and the solution.

The Role

You’ll own product design end to end, from early thinking through to shipped experience.

You’ll help define product direction, bring clarity to complex problem spaces, and design workflows that make sense to real users.

This is a role for someone who enjoys ambiguity, cares about craft, and wants to have a direct impact on the product.

What you’ll do
  • Contribute to product and design direction across the platform

  • Own the full design process: research, ideation, prototyping, testing, and shipping

  • Design intuitive experiences that simplify complex legal workflows

  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, and legal specialists

  • Bring clarity to ambiguous problems through strong product thinking

  • Participate in design critique and help raise the bar across the team

What we’re looking for
  • 5+ years of product design experience

  • Strong product thinking — you can turn complex problems into simple, usable solutions

  • Track record of shipping high-quality products in cross-functional teams

  • High level of craft across visual, interaction, and prototyping (Figma)

  • Clear communicator who can work effectively with different stakeholders

  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, evolving environments

  • Collaborative, low ego, and focused on the quality of the work

Bonus:

  • Experience building or scaling design systems

  • Experience using AI tools to explore concepts or prototype quickly

How we work

We’re an in-office team in Edinburgh. We work together because it helps us collaborate closely, move faster, and make better product decisions. You should expect to be in the office as your default.

Design is tightly integrated with product and engineering. You’ll be in the room for decisions, not working in isolation.

We keep process light and focus on shipping, learning, and improving quickly.

What you can expect
  • Real ownership over product direction and design decisions

  • Complex, meaningful problems at the intersection of AI and real-world workflows

  • A team of engineers, designers, and domain experts working closely together

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity

At Wordsmith AI, you’ll have the chance to build category-defining tools that change the way an entire industry works. If you want your design work to have real-world impact at scale, we’d love to hear from you.
