About Boltz

Boltz is a public benefit company building the next generation of AI-powered molecular modeling tools to make biology programmable and accelerate drug discovery, while keeping frontier capabilities broadly accessible.
Boltz-1, Boltz-2, and BoltzGen are open models trusted by 100,000+ scientists across biotech and academia, and used in programs at every Top 20 pharma as well as leading agrichemical and industrial research organizations.
We deliver these capabilities through Boltz Lab, our platform for running our latest models and design agents as reliable, production-grade tools. Boltz Lab is designed around real chemistry and biology workflows, so teams can start from a target and a hypothesis and quickly generate, evaluate, and rank candidate molecules. We provide the compute, the scalable infrastructure, and the collaboration layer, so scientists can iterate faster and stay focused.

About the role

As a Product Designer, you will own the design of Boltz Lab, shaping how scientists experience, trust, and use cutting-edge AI for molecular modeling and drug discovery. Your role is to turn powerful but complex capabilities into intuitive, trustworthy, and delightful product experiences for researchers in drug discovery.
You’ll work closely with software engineers, ML researchers, and domain experts in chemistry and biology to understand user needs and translate them into clear product concepts, interaction patterns, and end-to-end workflows. This includes designing interfaces for exploring data, configuring models, interpreting results, and iterating on experiments.
You will own the design process from early discovery and user research through prototyping, visual design, and implementation handoff. You’ll help define the product’s information architecture, interaction models, and visual language, ensuring consistency, usability, and clarity across Boltz Lab. A key part of the role is making advanced ML outputs interpretable and actionable, helping users build confidence in model behavior and results.
This role is ideal for a designer who enjoys working on technically deep products, cares deeply about craft and usability, and is motivated by building tools that expand what scientists can do.

About you

Essentials:
  • Strong experience designing complex, data-rich products or tools used by technical or expert users.
  • Proven ability to own end-to-end product design, from discovery and user research through interaction design, visual design, and engineering handoff.
  • Excellent skills in interaction design, information architecture, and systems thinking, with an eye for clarity and usability in complex workflows.
  • Ability to translate abstract or highly technical concepts into intuitive, well-structured user experiences.
  • Strong visual design and prototyping skills, with experience using modern design tools (e.g. Figma or equivalent).
  • Experience collaborating closely with software engineers and product stakeholders, incorporating feedback while maintaining a high bar for design quality.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain design decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have:
  • Experience designing products for scientific, engineering, or research-driven domains (e.g. biotech, ML tooling, data platforms, developer tools).
  • Familiarity with workflows in machine learning, data science, or computational research.
  • Experience designing interfaces for data exploration, experimentation, or analysis-heavy workflows.
  • Experience working at an early-stage startup or owning large parts of a product’s design direction.
  • Exposure to usability testing with expert users and iterating based on qualitative feedback.
  • Interest in or basic understanding of biology, chemistry, or drug discovery.

What we offer
  • Opportunity to drive outsized real-world impact by building tools that empower thousands of scientists across the industry.
  • Work alongside one of the most talent-dense teams in the field.
  • Significant ownership and independence, with responsibility for driving projects from concept to deployment.
  • Highly competitive salary with substantial equity ownership.
