Job Description

This is an opportunity to lead some of the UK's most significant solar, storage and private wire projects, helping transform ambitious developments into investment-ready renewable energy assets.

At EDF power solutions, we’re delivering an Electric UK and Ireland.

As a Principal Business Development Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in maximising project value, shaping commercial strategy, securing routes to market, and helping deliver renewable energy projects from development through to construction and beyond.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact leadership role within our Solar, Storage and Private Wire team. You’ll lead a major pre-FID solar project, bringing together multidisciplinary experts to de-risk projects, build compelling investment cases and help drive projects through key development milestones. Your work will directly influence investment decisions and support the growth of renewable generation across the UK.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this role offers UK-based hybrid working, part from home and our London office. We know flexibility matters, so we offer a hybrid approach that helps you balance collaboration and focused work.

You’ll work at the forefront of the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector, engaging with senior stakeholders, customers and industry partners. From developing commercial strategies to supporting major project delivery, you’ll have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to EDF power solutions’ growth and net zero ambitions.

Why EDF power solutions?

We’re united by a shared ambition: to tackle climate change, shaping an Electric UK and Ireland. Our diverse team is growing fast, driven by innovation and a commitment to clean, green energy for all.

With technologies spanning onshore and offshore wind, solar, battery storage and green hydrogen, we’re the UK & Ireland’s most diverse renewable generator. By 2035, we aim to deliver 10GW of low-carbon energy – and we’d love you to help us get there.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Principal Business Development Manager who combines commercial insight with strategic thinking and experience leading complex renewable energy projects. You’ll be comfortable working across technical, financial and commercial disciplines while building strong relationships with stakeholders. To be shortlisted, you need to offer…

  • A degree in a numerate discipline, ideally commerce or finance related
  • Experience leading skilled multidisciplinary project teams
  • Knowledge of M&A processes for power generation projects
  • Understanding of project lifecycles and key project risks across renewable generation technologies
  • Experience producing and presenting financial appraisals and risk analysis for infrastructure or generation asset investments
  • Experience developing routes to market and commercial strategies for renewable energy projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading a large-scale solar project through the pre-FID phase, ensuring risks are identified and managed
  • Owning and developing investment cases using inputs from internal teams and external partners
  • Managing project governance activities and supporting key investment and commercial decisions
  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams across development, engineering, construction and asset management functions
  • Managing project budgets and associated project management documentation
  • Supporting negotiation of land, grid, procurement, construction and operational agreements
  • Engaging customers and market participants to secure viable routes to market
  • Supporting project delivery during construction to help ensure outcomes align with approved investment cases
  • Promoting high standards of safety, health, environment and quality across project activities
  • Mentoring Business Development Managers and other junior colleagues
