Role Purpose

Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables provides integrated subscription, research and advisory services to inform and support our client’s commercial and strategic decisions in the complex and rapidly changing electric power industry.

Combining our deep knowledge of solar, wind, storage, and grid technologies, with our global power and fuels modelling and analytical capabilities, Wood Mackenzie can provide data and insight spanning supply chain, technology costs, policy and market issues, fundamentals-based outlooks, price forecasting, asset valuation, and commodity market issues.

This role sits within Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables Supply Chain team, with a primary focus on capex modelling for offshore and onshore wind. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a market-leading team and play a pivotal role in supporting the global wind sector as it navigates changing price landscapes by shaping industry-standard tools.

Holding a global remit, you will collaborate across both our global wind team and cross-technology supply chain intelligence team. Your analysis will provide critical market intelligence and consulting support to asset owners, developers, suppliers, investors, and policy-makers across the renewable energy value chain. Through this work, you will help these companies achieve their strategic goals while making a tangible, meaningful impact on the wider energy transition.

Main Responsibilities

Capex Modelling and Investment Strategy

  • Shape the modelling landscape: Shape and deepen Wood Mackenzie’s capex modelling structure and content, with a primary focus on offshore and onshore wind.
  • Lead industry discussions: Lead high-level discussions and analysis on the future of wind energy costs, charting a clear route forward for the industry.
  • Shape investment strategies: Work on the leading edge of the industry, collaborating with top developers, investors, and suppliers to map out the implications of risk, supply and demand dynamics, and commodity pricing pressures to directly inform their investment strategies.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with supply chain and cost experts across technologies, market analysts covering outlooks and tenders, global power teams, and LCOE modelling experts to ensure your analysis feeds directly into project revenue and project IRR projections.
  • Data integrity: Monitor, maintain, and refresh relevant data through primary and secondary research, ensuring data quality, consistency, and accuracy reflect real-world market realities.

Research, Analysis and Report Writing

  • Publish insights: Lead and contribute to high-impact, thought-leading research publications.
  • Deliver excellence: Ensure all research deliverables are executed and delivered in a timely fashion to a high standard.

Networking, Industry Collaboration and Consulting

  • Build Your Brand: Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker. Strengthen your own brand and the Wood Mackenzie brand by speaking at conferences, hosting webinars, and engaging with the media.
  • Client Relationships: Maintain and expand strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients across the global renewable energy sector.
  • Advisory Support: Provide technical and commercial insight to support specific consulting advisory assignments across the wind energy sector.
  • Business Development: Work directly with sales and marketing teams via internal and external communications to help generate new sales, build larger programmes for existing clients, and effectively market completed research.

About You

The Ideal Candidate: You bring hands-on experience working directly for a renewable energy developer, investor, or supplier. You possess a deep, practical understanding of project costs and pricing structures derived from direct exposure to one or more key procurement packages, such as wind turbines, vessels, foundations, or substations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Wind cost expertise: Proven hands-on experience in wind energy cost modelling, with an intimate familiarity with component-level cost developments and a strong understanding of existing and future cost drivers.
  • Commercial acumen: The ability to take complex data and technical analysis and transform it into actionable, commercially focused insights.
  • Detail-oriented and organised: Excellent problem-solving, documentation, communication, and organisational skills, with a sharp eye for data accuracy.
  • Collaborative and self-driven: Highly motivated self-starter who can switch seamlessly between working as an independent individual contributor and collaborating within a matrixed global team.
  • Global engagement: An engaging nature, capable of connecting authentically with co-workers, clients, and industry stakeholders across the globe in a wide range of professional settings.
  • Communication skills: Strong listening, critical thinking, presentation, and writing skills, with the confidence to present to senior audiences.
