The Platform Product Manager will drive reliability and observability initiatives at Kraken, owning product roadmaps, facilitating user research, and enabling engineering teams to enhance platform scalability and stability.
At Kraken we’re looking to revolutionise the energy system to make power cheaper, greener and better for people around the world. Our tech platform is already licensed to support 60 million customer accounts in 17 countries, and we aim to serve 100 million globally by 2027. Our technology team has grown extremely quickly as a result. With this rapid growth, we are looking for Product Managers to join our team and work with our developers to ensure what they do has the highest impact for our customers.
We’re looking for a Product Manager to join our Reliability Group that sits within the Platform department at Kraken. Reporting to the Group Product Manager, you’ll look after our Foundational Reliability and Observability teams, building the systems that allow Kraken to scale safely to 100 million users. Reliability is one of Kraken’s absolute top priorities. As we scale, we need to continue targeting "utility-grade reliability", ensuring our platform is as dependable as the energy grids we support. This means this role is a high-visibility position where your work is a strategic imperative that enables the entire business to operate. Your teams are responsible for our observability platforms (primarily Datadog) and platform-wide reliability initiatives. Our mission is to enable Kraken teams to build "Safe and Fast" by ensuring they have best-in-class tooling and the cultural frameworks to own their stability.
You will act as a force multiplier for our engineering teams, championing end-to-end reliability through proactive prevention, deep system visibility, and strategic education. We need a strategic thinker who can look at a complex technical ecosystem and turn it into a cohesive product roadmap that gets the whole organisation aligned.
What you'll do:
- Own a complex technical domain and craft a clear "Now, Next, Later" roadmap aligned with the wider Group's goals and strategy. You’ll move us away from reactive work toward a strategic vision that gets the entire organisation excited.
- Conduct user research with our internal engineering teams to understand their pain points. You'll use this feedback, combined with other data (from incidents to platform performance), to decide where we invest next.
- Act as a strategic enabler for your engineers, preventing distraction and consensus paralysis. You’ll make the hard calls on what not to do, ensuring the team ships high-value work with velocity.
- Translate deep technical concepts (SLOs, Error Budgets, Tracing) into clear business value for senior leadership and other stakeholders, giving visibility to the critical work happening under the hood and the true “state of the platform”.
- You won't just ship tools, you'll ship behaviour. You will foster a psychologically safe environment where prevention and learning are valued over heroic firefighting. Through this, you will enable teams across Kraken to collaborate and collectively level up our operational excellence.
What you'll need:
- Established experience as a Product Manager (or Senior PM), with a track record of owning a product area from discovery to delivery. You know how to define success, measure it, and iterate.
- Fluency in the language of Reliability. You aren't expected to code, but you should be comfortable discussing Observability strategies, Datadog configurations, and architectural trade-offs with senior engineers. If you haven’t had a tonne of experience here, a strong interest in deeply technical domains and a willingness to upskill are just as valuable
- Ability to drive delivery in a fast-paced environment without burning out your team. You know how to navigate risks and escalate blockers effectively to keep momentum high.
- To be able to take a vertical business objective (e.g., "Improve Platform Stability") and translate it into actionable team-level projects.
- Curiosity and willingness to roll up your sleeves. Fantastic ideas come from everywhere in Kraken Technologies, so you’ll need to be able to spot and harness them.
We are hiring this role in either our London or Manchester office and will require 2 days a week onsite.
We also require you to have full right to the work in the UK for this position.
Nice to have:
- Experience in building internal-facing tooling
- Knowledge of the energy industry, whether that’s in the UK or globally.
