About Us:
The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers, or small businesses, and their financial service providers.
This role exists to provide senior technical and analytical leadership for performance and corporate reporting during a critical period of transition in the organisation’s data and reporting landscape. The postholder is accountable for ensuring Executive, Board and external reporting requirements are clearly defined, technically robust and delivered at pace, while longer-term data warehouse solutions are being developed.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the role bridges business, executive and technical teams. It translates complex and often ambiguous questions into clear reporting requirements, data logic and interim solutions, while shaping and assuring sustainable reporting capability delivered through the enterprise data platform.
What You’ll Do:
You’ll own executive‑level performance and corporate reporting, ensuring a clear, consistent view of performance from Board to operational level. You’ll define the metrics, narrative and reporting structure, build interim solutions using SQL and Power BI, and assure the quality, logic and transparency of all reporting. Working closely with Data, BI and Technology teams, you’ll ensure reporting meets senior stakeholder needs and aligns with business intent.
This is a high‑impact role with real influence at senior levels. You’ll bring clarity to complex and evolving data, shape how leaders understand performance, and help drive better decisions. You’ll navigate ambiguity, align stakeholders on measures and definitions, and proactively manage risks in the reporting landscape — making this a rewarding challenge for someone who thrives on ownership, complexity and visibility.
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
Minimum Criteria:
- Strong technical capability with hands‑on experience using SQL, Power BI and Excel to interrogate, transform, validate and model data for complex performance or corporate reporting.
- Experience of communicating complex data to senior stakeholders, including Executive or Board‑level audiences, using clear narrative to tell a compelling story with data and explain performance, drivers and risks.
- The ability to communicate confidently in both technical and non‑technical ways, translating ambiguous business or executive questions into structured reporting requirements and clearly explaining logic, assumptions and limitations.
- Experience of operating at senior specialist level in analytics, performance reporting or business intelligence, with accountability for high‑profile, business‑critical reporting outputs and sound judgement on data quality and tradeoffs.
It would also be nice for you to have:
- Ability to demonstrate strong stakeholder‑management and influencing skills, evidenced by working across multiple functions and aligning senior stakeholders on reporting definitions, measures or approaches.
- Ability to show sound judgement and confidence when challenged, including defending analytical approaches, data assumptions and trade‑offs with credibility and clarity.
- Proven experience partnering effectively with data engineering, BI or technology teams, contributing to the design or embedding of reporting within enterprise data platforms.
- Ability to demonstrate an interest in improving data maturity, including designing interim or prototype reporting solutions where data structures are still evolving.
- Evidence of behaviours and ways of working that align well with our organisational values, demonstrated through collaboration, accountability, curiosity and a commitment to high‑quality outcomes.
