The Opportunity at Altana

The People Operations Manager will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of Altana’s London office and for supporting the people operations and HR needs of our growing UK team. Working from our London co-working space, this hybrid role blends office and culture management with hands-on people operations — creating a welcoming in-office experience and owning onboarding, benefits, and HR administration for Altana’s UK employees. As Altana expands into Europe, the People Operations Coordinator will also help stand up people operations across new EU locations.
The People Operations Manager will report into Altana’s global People team and will work cross-functionally with Altana’s IT and Finance teams, as well as the UK leadership team.

You Will

  • Serve as Altana’s main point of contact with our London co-working/serviced-office provider managing our membership, desks, and meeting-room bookings, and raising any building or facilities issues (reception, cleaning, and facilities are provided by the building).
  • Keep the team’s space running smoothly including team supplies, equipment, and any Altana-specific needs beyond what the building provides.
  • Own the in-office experience and culture, organise team socials, celebrations, and in-office moments, and run logistics for all-hands, visitors, and events that make the London office somewhere people want to be.
  • Coordinate on-site logistics for new joiners and visiting global colleagues and customers, including desk setup, building access, and a smooth first day in the office.
  • Own new-hire onboarding for UK employees including offer and contract paperwork, right-to-work checks, inductions, equipment, and first-week setup in partnership with IT and hiring managers.
  • Administer UK employee benefits, including enrolment, day-to-day queries, and liaising with providers.
  • Manage basic offboarding for UK leavers including exit logistics, equipment return, and access removal (note: this role does not own payroll).
  • Support Altana’s expansion into Europe in helping to stand up people operations for new EU locations, including onboarding, benefits, and local HR administration, in partnership with the global People team and external advisors.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee records and support HR compliance and UK (and, over time, EU) employment documentation.
  • Act as a first, friendly point of contact for employee questions on benefits, policies, and workplace matters, escalating to the global People team as needed.
  • Champion Altana’s culture and employee experience, supporting the global People team on engagement initiatives and people projects.

You Have

  • 3-5 years of experience in people/HR operations, office management, or a coordination role, ideally in a fast-growing technology or startup environment.
  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders at once.
  • Warm, approachable, and service-oriented, you take pride in creating a great workplace and employee experience.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for building culture and community in an in-person office environment.
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Working knowledge of UK employment fundamentals (e.g., right-to-work, statutory leave) and comfort learning HRIS and benefits tools; prior exposure is a plus.
  • Interest in or exposure to operating across multiple European markets is a plus, as this role will support our expansion into Europe.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive, resourceful self-starter who is comfortable working independently and across a global, distributed team.
  • Ideally, an interest in our domain and mission.
