About the role 

Here at DS Smith, we are looking for an experienced Data Solutions Manager to lead the delivery of our data within the Paper division of DS Smith. As a Data Solutions Manager you work closely with a small data team, and external/internal suppliers to build and manage and design data solutions aligned with our cloud and digital manufacturing strategy. Your role will work in the IT Centre of Excellence, reporting into the Head of IT – Business & Data Solutions Paper.

 

The IT Centre of Excellence is responsible for aligning IT solutions and domain strategy to DS Smith’s priorities, working closely with IT business partners and business stakeholders. In the paper & recycling divisions we look after data initiatives and products across our 14 paper mills located in Europe and North America that serve internal and external customers.

 

In this role, you will bring and develop the technical skills to become responsible for how data initiatives can support the business strategy and be the leading technical role of the data domain. Your role will be successful when we achieve high turnaround of ideas into useful products, that can be rolled out to our sites and supported throughout their lifecycle. You also work closely with the central IT services that are responsible for our cloud data platform to introduce new tools/processes and strive to implement best practices across the paper division. With our recent strategy change to cloud services within AWS, you’ll be key to guide our business partners and data team towards benefiting from tools not used in our current application stack. You will add a lot of value by being open and flexible about learning new technologies and ensuring high availability of your solutions

 

You will be a technical Power BI SME, ensuring key users and PowerBI development teams follow good development practices of datasets and reports / dashboards. You will also demonstrate of basic SQL, Python and advanced DAX knowledge. Migration of data solutions to cloud (AWS/Azure) and knowledge of IoT and Industry 4.0 solutions would be a nice to have.

 

About you  

  • Experienced as a technical product owner in the domain of data science/ analytics or BI, preferably in manufacturing or supply chain industries

  • At least 2 years owning PowerBI Workspaces with over 100 users, solution release processes and complex lineage and security landscape

  • Experience in working with co-located cross-functional teams and excellent English communication skills, additional languages (Spanish/French/German) are an asset

  • Enjoys agile solution development and can help break down complex requirements and delivery of multiple projects into manageable deliverables, while not losing sight of critical roadmap deadlines

  • Loves reliable and optimized data solutions including all aspects of data modelling, data pipelines, user friendly analytics, and service management

  • Writing SQL (basic), DAX (advanced) and Python (basic)

  • Experience in migration of data solutions to cloud (AWS/Azure) and delivery of data solutions on cloud.

  • Previous exposure to IIoT and Industry 4.0 solutions would be nice to have

  • Previous experience in delivering solutions powered by AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, PySpark, AWS Redshift/S3 buckets, APIs is a plus.
