Job Description:

Working as part of an established team, the role involves working across 2 large data centres in the north east of England (Wynyard /Doxford) providing onsite IT infrastructure support.

The role will require a drivers licence and own transport due to the travel between sites. The position will also require the successful candidate to undergo SC clearance.

Position Objective:

Visually inspect status indicators (LEDs) on Customer Equipment and report status to Customer; Perform a power-cycle of an item of Customer Equipment pursuant to the detailed, written instructions provided by Customer in the Intervention Request; Perform a visual inspection of power and cabling connectivity;  Inspect all cabling for proper seating pursuant to detailed, written instructions provided by Customer in the Intervention Request; Test cable paths for conformance with performance standards pursuant to detailed, written instructions provided by Customer in the Intervention Request; Connect a “Crash Cart” (KVM) to assist diagnosis of failed reboots or power cycles pursuant to detailed, written instructions provided by Customer in the Intervention Request; Mount media in identified drives as part of system builds or diagnosis pursuant to detailed, written instructions provided by Customer in the Intervention Request; Activate hardware controls pursuant to detailed, written instructions provided by Customer in the Intervention Request; and Replace hot-swappable components pursuant to detailed, written instructions provided by Customer in the Intervention Request.  Note: Will not  log-on or access any Customer systems during any Intervention, despite any instructions to do so provided in an Intervention Request.

Functional Expertise:

.          Basic understanding of IT operations in a big organization

·         Strong loyalty with regard to data and DC facility security

·         Fluency in the local language (speaking, reading and writing)

·         Fluency in English (speaking, reading and writing)

·         Ability to work precisely and quality oriented

·         Maturity, high level of reliability & sense of responsibility

·         Flexibility and willingness to cope with unexpected problems and situations.

·         A general technical orientation

·         Competent and professional communication with a commercial attitude over the phone

·         Capacity to understand and clarify customer expectations effectively

·         Capacity to manage customer expectations and interactions effectively

·         Basic understanding of server HW (console, devices…)

·         Ability to handle various types of media, devices and libraries

·         Generic media knowledge (will provide training for specific or customer specific equipment)

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office environment and general PC hardware

·         Basic understanding of Networking

Preferred

·         Data centre operations experience

·         Familiarity with structures and processes

·         Professional certification in a relative field

·         A professional degree in a technical discipline
