Lead and manage the Mobile Platform team, drive mobile technical strategy and delivery, improve app architecture, build/distribution/observability, and communicate with senior stakeholders to deliver high-profile strategic projects.
About the team:
We are on a mission to build outstanding mobile experiences for our customers.
You will join and lead a team of mobile engineers responsible for building customer-facing products across our native iOS and Android apps. The team works closely with Product, Design and Backend Engineering to take ideas from inception through to customers, with a strong focus on delivering experiences that feel at home on each platform.
The company has the vision to become Britain’s best bank, and the app is our most important touch point with our customers. It needs to be performant, reliable and delightful to use. Our mobile apps are built natively using Swift and SwiftUI on iOS and Kotlin and Compose on Android, and we care deeply about creating experiences that are technically and visually empathetic to each platform. You will also be part of the wider Mobile community at Zopa, helping us maintain a high bar across our apps and contributing to shared standards and ways of working.
A day in the life:
- You will report into the Head of Engineering of Mobile.
- Managing a team of mobile engineers, creating an environment in which they can do their best work. You'll be responsible for motivating and developing the team, holding a high performance bar and driving quality across the full SDLC.
- Taking accountability for the execution and delivery of your team. You will create structure where needed, maintain momentum and ensure we deliver high-quality mobile experiences predictably.
- Working closely with Product and Design to understand the shared outcomes and shape how they are delivered on mobile. You will challenge where necessary, including whether the work we are doing will meaningfully contribute to our goals, and ensure the experiences we build feel at home on iOS and Android.
- Partnering closely with Engineering Managers and teams across Zopa, particularly Backend Engineering, to drive complex initiatives from inception through to delivery. You will identify dependencies early, unblock problems and take shared accountability for smooth end-to-end delivery rather than considering the job done when the mobile work is complete.
- Providing technical leadership to your team. You don’t need to be the most technically experienced engineer in the room, but you will have the technical credibility to ask the right questions, challenge decisions and hold a high bar for the quality, performance and maintainability of our mobile apps.
- Contributing beyond your immediate team through the wider Mobile and Engineering Management communities. You will help improve shared mobile standards and practices, bring good ways of working to your team and share learnings with Engineering Managers across Zopa.
- Communicating clearly with senior stakeholders, technical and otherwise, and bringing teams closer together.
About you:
- Bring proven experience leading mobile engineering teams and delivering high quality mobile applications, with the credibility to support and challenge experienced engineers.
- Lead high profile, strategic work with energy and pace, creating momentum and driving positive change when it is needed.
- Turn ambiguity into clarity, solving complex problems while balancing priorities, dependencies and competing demands.
- Stay focused on meaningful customer and business outcomes, constructively challenging priorities when they will not create enough impact.
- Champion exceptional mobile products, creating distinct, intuitive iOS and Android experiences and staying close to emerging mobile practices.
- Build trusted partnerships across Product, Design and Engineering, bringing people together around shared goals even when views differ.
- Lead with humility and care, empowering engineers through clear expectations, meaningful feedback, coaching and high standards.
- Take ownership with ambition and confidence, setting direction and remaining accountable for your team’s delivery and technical quality.
- Communicate with empathy and clarity, building strong relationships and managing expectations across a wide range of stakeholders.
Added bonus:
- Have experience working in a regulated environment to ensure that customer interests are always prioritised.
