We are looking for an experienced and proactive Manager, Risk and Control Partnering to join the Group Customer and Communications Risk team.

Group Customer and Communications aspires to be a best-in-class customer and communication function, building the strongest brand, deepest customer relationships, most effective marketing and leading in customer satisfaction.

This is an exciting opportunity to underpin GCC’s evolving innovative, customer-led change agenda with expert risk management, oversight and challenge. Working with colleagues both within GCC and across the Society, the role will crucially influence safe and customer-focused decision making throughout integration and strategic change activity.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London, Bournemouth or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

You will work with the Change and Business Banking Senior Risk Manager to establish and embed a forward-thinking risk management model to underpin, constructively challenge and inform the end to end delivery of critical change, integration and business banking activity across the Society, both led by and supported within GCC.

Your ability to establish excellent relationships, influence senior management and enforce the voice of the customer will play a vital role in ensuring an enduring successful interplay between managing the risks from an increasingly dynamic change environment and delivery of the Society’s strategic Business Banking offering, with the ‘business as usual’ process and control management activity.

You will engage and utilise insight from the wider GCC Risk team, working closely with Risk Partners, Communications Risk and Governance to ensure impacts to the GCC Risk profile throughout the change lifecycle are understood and subsequent control activity seamlessly co-ordinated.

You will ensure lessons learned from change activity are captured and incorporated into future risk management practices, ensuring good customer outcomes aligning to the FCA Consumer Duty regulation.

About you

As a minimum you’ll have:

  • Practitioner level experience working in a first-line risk environment within financial services, with proven experience and passion for managing customer and communications risk across a broad range of business areas and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated capability in a high-performing, customer-led business area, with significant experience in analytical thinking and risk management.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in managing risk according to the FCA Consumer Duty.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
