About Motorway

Motorway is the UK's largest online car-selling platform. We connect private sellers directly with over 8,000 dealers nationwide. Our online platform helps sellers achieve great prices for their cars while giving dealers fast, reliable access to the stock they want for their dealerships. Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.

About the Role:

We are looking for a commercial, proactive Management Accountant to join our Operational Finance team.

In this role, you will take ownership of our month-end close process, deliver accurate financial reporting, and partner with FP&A and operational teams as Motorway continues to scale. You will also play a key role in maintaining our tax and audit compliance, while actively looking for ways to improve and automate our finance processes.

This is an ideal role for a recently qualified (or nearly-qualified) accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) looking for their first move out of practice into a fast-paced scale-up, or an experienced Management Accountant seeking a varied, high-impact role in tech.

What You'll Do:

Month-End & Financial Reporting

  • Take full ownership of the month-end close, ensuring accurate and timely reporting in line with UK GAAP/IFRS.

  • Post monthly journals, accruals, prepayments, and manage balance sheet reconciliations in NetSuite.

  • Partner with the Accounts Receivable Manager to reconcile complex, multi-channel revenue streams across the business.

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and actionable commentary for the Finance leadership team.

FP&A & Commercial Support

  • Work alongside the FP&A team to deliver monthly variance analysis against budget/forecast.

  • Support the annual budgeting and rolling forecast cycles.

  • Act as a key finance partner to operational teams, translating financial data into commercial insights.

Compliance, Audit & Process Improvement

  • Complete quarterly VAT returns and manage associated UK tax compliance.

  • Support the external audit preparation, acting as a point of contact for auditors during annual audits.

  • Assist with statutory reporting, including SECR/carbon reporting requirements and ONS survey submissions.

  • Identify bottlenecks in our finance workflows and help implement system and process automation to support company growth.

What You'll Bring

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA (or in the final stages of exams with relevant practical experience).

  • Experience: Either making a first move from practice (Audit/Accounts) or proven experience within an in-house management accounting function.

  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with Excel / Google Sheets (financial modeling, complex formulas, pivot tables).

  • Mindset: A self-starter attitude with strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-evolving business.

  • Communication: Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite or similar cloud ERP systems.

  • Prior experience with multi-stream revenue reconciliations or tech/marketplace business models.

  • Exposure to VAT return preparation and audit readiness.
