Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Ethics & Compliance, and Secretariat Function (LRECS). In this role, you will be an integral part of a high-performing team that is closely engaged with the business and aligned to its objectives. This role will support a wide variety of property focussed legal work including supporting Centrica’s infrastructure business Centrica Power, the customer facing business of Centrica Business Solutions, Centrica Energy Storage and the group Estates team.  Some support from time to time in relation to Centrica group M&A will also be required.

Location: We work flexibly in line with our Flexible First working arrangements believing that empowered colleagues are happier and more productive. The successful candidate will, however, need to be comfortable commuting to our Windsor office on a weekly basis and to our other locations as may be needed.

What will you do?

  • Support with all property related work concerning the acquisition and construction of renewable projects, gas storage and hydrogen related projects and other power projects in the UK.
  • Support the Centrica Estates team with day-to-day property needs and requirements including property acquisitions, lease extensions, renewals and terminations.
  • Support the group M&A team on property due diligence in connection with strategic acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures.
  • Draft and negotiate appropriate commercial positions on all required land related contracts in line with the needs of each project.
  • Identify risks and mitigations for investment committees and inputting to investment papers.  Respond to business queries and questions from a property perspective.
  • Support the business with hive-ups and transfers of acquired assets from a property perspective to reposition them within the various parts of the group’s corporate structure as needed.
  • Provide support in relation to property related disputes.
  • Develop non-standard, customised solutions when needed to address project challenges.
  • Interpretation of and advice on regulatory and compliance requirements, balancing risk and commercial objectives.

Who are we looking for?

As a professionally qualified lawyer, you must be able to demonstrate a highly flexible and inquisitive approach to your diverse legal work. You should be adept at managing a wide range of stakeholders, prioritising tasks effectively, and delivering high-quality commercial property work.

With substantial business-facing experience in a legal role handling complex, high-profile, and significant legal matters, ideally within the renewables or broader energy industry, you will bring the following skills:

  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in clear and simple language.
  • Pragmatic and solution-focused advice.
  • Effective management of external counsel with strong budgetary discipline.

Experience with onshore energy projects in the UK would be advantageous given the role's focus.
