Job Description

As Legal Counsel, you’ll be a key point of contact for the business across a broad range of legal areas, which may include commercial, marketing and advertising, brand, sustainability, supply chain, property and AI. This role will give you the opportunity to assist the Head of Legal and Senior Legal Counsel across these diverse practice areas - but there will also be the opportunity to support on matters outside of these areas.

The role is critical in helping the wider ASOS Legal Team meet the needs and requirements of all elements of ASOS’ business across the globe, requiring the ability to give commercial as well as legal advice, often on cross-border matters, and to promptly identify risks and issues that need to be escalated within the company.

Prior experience in all of the above areas is not a requirement, but the role would suit someone who is hands-on and commercially minded, with a strong professional ethic, energy and interest to learn and pursue a broad array of commercial, legal and risk/reputation management matters.

Below are just some examples of the diverse work you will have the opportunity to work on:

Marketing and Advertising

  • Advising on advertising regulatory compliance, including ensuring marketing campaigns comply with ASA, CAP and consumer protection rules.
  • Supporting the business on influencer and talent agreements, including reviewing terms around content usage, exclusivity and image rights.
  • Advising on the use of AI in marketing and creative content, including AI-generated imagery.
  • Reviewing prize promotions, competitions and consumer-facing terms and conditions.

Commercial

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including wholesale agreements, brand partnership agreements and supplier contracts.
  • Supporting on marketplace arrangements and brand collaboration agreements with third-party brand partners.

Supply chain and property

  • Advising on supply chain contracts, including logistics and warehousing agreements, as well as property related matters.

Sustainability

  • Advising on sustainability-related regulatory requirements, including environmental compliance, ESG reporting obligations and green claims.

Team & Management

  • We believe being together in person helps us move faster, connect more deeply, and achieve more as a team. That’s why our approach to working together includes spending at least 3 days a week in the office. It’s a rhythm that speeds up decision-making, helps ASOSers learn from each other more quickly, and builds the kind of culture where people can grow, create, and succeed.
  • You will report to a Head of Legal or Senior Counsel and will have the opportunity to work closely with senior members of our Legal Team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
  • Manage and support on legal and commercial aspects of critical projects.
  • Identify the need for external legal advice and escalate legal matters accordingly.
  • Identify and help to prepare and deliver training to the Legal team and to the business on relevant legal issues.
  • Be the key point of contact to drive projects forward with multiple stakeholders.
  • Supporting our culture by championing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategies.

Qualifications

About You

  • General commercial legal experience assisting in negotiating and advising on commercial contracts gained from private practice or in-house positions.
  • PQE Qualified Solicitor with experience.
  • An enthusiastic adopter of AI technologies.
  • Adopts an approachable and adaptable manner to ensure excellent communication and interaction with the wide variety of different stakeholders within the unique environment of ASOS, across all levels and geographies.
  • Has previous experience working in a fast-paced, growing, agile, adaptable in-house commercial environment.
  • Is an excellent communicator, as our Legal team members continually build relationships at all levels across the business, at the same time as working together to deliver what’s needed by the business.
  • We’re also fast paced, so all team members also need to be adaptable and cope with change quickly and be enthused and excited about what’s around the corner for us.
