Job Description

We are looking for a commercially minded Legal Advisor to support the Senior Legal Manager (UK & Canada) in delivering a high-performing in-house legal function across McArthurGlen Designer Outlets. The Legal Advisor will provide broad, commercially focused legal support across commercial real estate, contracts, construction and planning, debt recovery, dispute resolution, and a range of ad hoc matters including ESG, marketing and corporate governance, acting as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders.

Working closely with Head Office and Centre teams, you will liaise with external advisors to ensure McArthurGlen’s decisions balance legal risk with commercial priorities and remain fully compliant. The role will also provide the opportunity to deputise for the Senior Legal Manager where required, including attending meetings, advising on leasing matters, and engaging confidently with senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Commercial Real Estate Transactions: Lead and manage commercial real estate transactions (primarily leasing and asset management), instructing and overseeing external solicitors, monitoring progress, and reporting on key matters.
  • Centre Legal Support (UK & Canada): Act as principal legal contact for designated Centres, working closely with stakeholders to ensure effective and timely legal support across all sites.
  • Commercial Contracts: Manage commercial contracts for goods and services (including facilities and marketing events), leading negotiations on more complex matters and overseeing external counsel where required.
  • Property & Development Projects: Support property management and development teams on enhancement and new build projects, including construction contracts, appointments, and planning matters.
  • ESG, Governance & Risk: Support the implementation of ESG strategy and corporate governance frameworks, including anti-bribery, corruption, data protection, and wider risk management activities.
  • Debt Recovery & Disputes: Manage UK debt recovery and insolvency matters, driving timely, commercially focused resolution to maximise income recovery for McArthurGlen and its investors.
  • Legal Operations & Team Support: Support the Senior Legal Manager in prioritising and allocating legal work across the UK and Canada function, including mentoring junior team members and contributing to training, reporting, and wider departmental initiatives.

For a detailed description of the responsibilities, see the Job Description

  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Clear, confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to build effective relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commercial & Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving, analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice.
  • Negotiation & Influence: Confident negotiator with experience managing complex discussions, resolving conflict effectively, and achieving balanced commercial outcomes.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), with strong overall IT literacy.
