Our Purpose
At Xero, we’re here to help you supercharge your business. We do this by automating routine tasks, surfacing actionable insights and connecting businesses with the right data, advisors and apps. When that happens, we’re not only making life better for small business, we’ll be building a stronger economy that can change the world.

We're looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead Mission critical programs for the UK across our Tax and Payroll products. This is a pivotal role that will drive both the flawless execution of software and deliver critical business initiatives that are central to Xero’s strategy.

You'll be instrumental in defining, planning, and executing these programs, collaborating closely with Engineering, Product, Design and GTM teams to ensure the technical delivery of compliant systems, foster cross-functional program alignment across the company, and enable our engineering teams to deliver with high velocity. Many of these programs have deadlines and delivery dates set by government and legislation, so on-time delivery is crucial.

What you'll do

  • Program Strategy & Roadmap: Define and drive the overall execution strategy for multiple programs, such as Xero’s support for HMRC’s Making Tax Digital and strategic product deliveries in Payroll.
  • Delivery Acceleration & Simplification: identify bottlenecks, simplify technical dependencies, and streamline execution plans to significantly improve delivery velocity and time-to-market .
  • Technical Requirements: Work directly with Product and Engineering to finalize technical designs and define the execution plan.
  • Program Management: Manage detailed program plans, including scope, timelines, resource allocation, and risk mitigation, ensuring all compliance deadlines are met and that teams regularly deliver business value.
  • Technical System Build & Risk : Facilitate technical discussions and drive decisions on the architecture for programs.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and dependencies effectively to all stakeholders, including senior leadership, focusing on execution status and delivery velocity.
  • Experiment with, learn and share expertise in how to use AI to improve quality, accelerate delivery and magnify impact across the programs and software development lifecycle.

What you'll bring with you

  • Extensive experience as a Technical Program Manager or in a similar role managing complex technical programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep knowledge and experience driving software delivery programs, in a highly matrixed, global environment; preferably in small business systems or FinTech domain.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive clarity in ambiguity.
  • Proven ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment

Why Xero?
Offering very generous paid leave to use however you’d like (plus statutory holidays!), dedicated paid leave to care for your physical and mental wellbeing as well as an Employee Assistance Program to access mental health care for you and your family, private medical insurance, gym passes, employee resource groups, 26 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers, an Employee Share Plan, beautiful offices, flexible working, and many other benefits that reflect our human value, you’ll do the best work of your life at Xero.

Research has shown that women and underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single competency or experience . If you are excited about this role, but your past experience doesn't align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be just the right person for this role and Xero. If you have any support or access requirements, we encourage you to advise us at time of application and throughout the interview process.
