We are hiring a Lead Employment Counsel, Europe to take ownership of employment law across Europe. This is a senior, high-impact role combining deep legal expertise, regional leadership, and close partnership with the business in a fast-growing, international environment.
The role reports to the Associate General Counsel and plays a critical part in shaping Atlas’s European employment law strategy and execution.
The Opportunity
As Lead Employment Counsel, Europe, you will be the senior employment law authority for the region, responsible for guiding Atlas through complex and evolving employment frameworks while enabling scalable, compliant growth.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across Legal & Compliance, Operations, Sales, and People & Culture, and will regularly advise on sensitive, high-impact employment matters affecting both Atlas’s internal operations and its clients.
This role offers real ownership, visibility, and influence — ideal for an experienced employment lawyer who enjoys combining legal depth with leadership and commercial judgment.
What You’ll Do
  • Serve as the regional lead for European employment law, advising across the full employee lifecycle including hiring, working time, leave and accommodations, restructurings, transfers of employment, and terminations.
  • Own and continuously evolve Atlas’s European employment law framework, ensuring it supports a multi-country EOR operating model while managing legal and regulatory risk.
  • Draft, review, and maintain employment agreements, transfer documentation, and separation agreements across multiple European jurisdictions.
  • Monitor, interpret, and anticipate employment law developments across Europe (including TUPE / Acquired Rights, Working Time, pay transparency, and collective obligations), translating regulatory change into clear, practical guidance.
  • Strategically manage and partner with external counsel across jurisdictions, balancing legal risk, cost, and business outcomes.
  • Partner with internal teams to design and deliver practical legal training for internal stakeholders and client-facing teams.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, contributing to decision-making in a high-growth, regulated environment.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of employment lawyers and legal professionals across geographies.
  • Collaborate closely with global Legal & Compliance colleagues to align European practices with global standards.
What You Bring
  • 8+ years’ experience practising employment law, with significant exposure to European or multi-country matters.
  • Strong experience advising in an in-house environment, ideally within a global, matrixed organisation (tech, SaaS, EOR, or multinational experience preferred).
  • Deep working knowledge of European employment frameworks, including the EU Acquired Rights Directive, Working Time Directive, and pay transparency obligations.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or guiding other legal professionals.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex legal risk into clear, pragmatic, commercially sound advice.
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders and influencing outcomes.
  • A collaborative, people-centred approach with sound judgment and resilience in fast-moving environments.

This position description may not describe all duties, responsibilities, and skills associated with this position. It is intended to portray the major aspects of the job. Other duties or skills may be required.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work with a purpose — simplifying global expansion across borders and cultures
  • A diverse and inclusive environment
  • Country-specific benefits
  • Flexible PTO
  • Your birthday off and a day for you to volunteer and give back to the organization of your choice
  • Generous Parental Leave Program
  • Growth and development opportunities with access to a top learning content provider
  • The opportunity to challenge yourself in a high-performing organization and leave each day knowing you have made an impact.
