Position Overview

 

As a Lead Cloud Solution Architect - Application Modernization (AWS), you function as both a consultant and technical leader. As a consultant, you will meet with the business and IT leaders of our clients, understand their ambitions and pain points, and develop a vision of how to best solve their problems. As a technical leader, you will actualise the vision by designing and delivering engagements involving WWT's service offerings and technical teams.

 

You will be responsible for leading execution of strategic Cloud Application Modernisation engagements, providing technical expertise and industry insights to ensure successful outcomes for our customers. You are intimately familiar with approaches, methodologies, and tools - especially AI-enabled tools - that accelerate modernisation efforts while ensuring quality.

 

You will have the technical acumen with a cloud focus to provide guidance and support to other members of the team to ensure project success. Teamwork is critical to the role, working together to deliver a high quality, reliable service to our customers. We are seeking highly qualified technical experts for this role. You will have a strong broad-based generalist foundation with specialised, proven experience within the AWS Cloud space.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Technical Leadership

Lead execution of AWS Cloud solutions engagements at customer sites across the UK and Europe, and provide feedback to drive continuous improvement

Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, adeptly understanding their unique needs and crafting tailored recommendations that drive value and foster long-term partnerships

Produce architecture designs and solutions for building and maintaining cost-efficient, scalable, and secure AWS cloud environments

Lead the creation of High-Level and Low-Level Designs for areas of expertise

Deliver with strong analytical, quantitative, and conceptual thinking skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills to ensure successful client projects & team performance

Represent WWT's technical expertise to team members and customers through an in-depth knowledge of AWS cloud technologies

Maintain expert level knowledge on WWT solution offerings and industry cloud technologies including the completion of assigned courses and relevant AWS certification exams when applicable.

Stay current with emerging technologies and advancements within existing technologies

 

Solutions Development

Provide industry expertise and technical know-how to support development and maturing of AWS solution offerings and capabilities

Work with WWT account teams to educate them on AWS cloud capabilities and drive business development and sales across UK and European markets

Work with Sales engineers/Cloud consultants to review and validate understanding of customer requirements and translate initial scope into actionable items

Build relationships across the organisation to scope and deliver cross-functional and cross-domain solutions such as Digital, Security, AI, Analytics, Automation, and Data Center

Spearhead the strategic design of innovative solutions by leveraging deep knowledge of the evolving AWS technology landscape and maximising internal WWT capabilities

Actively pursue business opportunities at large, complex customers; work with clients and internal WWT teams to develop and negotiate statements of work, including project scope, deliverables, timelines, and costs.

Build productive solution development teams, leveraging junior team members to support their growth and development

 

Qualifications

 

Proven track record / experience in a related field required

Extensive experience designing, deploying, and implementing Private, Public, and Hybrid Cloud technologies in accordance with industry best practices

Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g. Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering)

Understanding of Public, Private, & Hybrid Cloud Strategies

Expert level experience with AWS Cloud Platform technologies

Expert level experience with Application Modernisation approaches, methodologies, and tools

Specialised expertise in the following:

   Cloud strategy and adoption patterns

   Cloud modernisation and migration

   Application architecture and development in the cloud

Experience with CI/CD pipeline development for automated cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, application code deployments and associated agile tools

Deep understanding of AWS Cloud ecosystem products and solutions

Strong organisational and analytical skills

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with great attention to detail

Independent and self-motivated and thorough

Troubleshooting skills (patience and determination to find and solve problems)

Ability to understand technology interdependencies and how various components integrate with one another

 

Strongly Desired Skills

 

Expert-level industry certifications related to AWS Cloud Platform (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional)

Specialised expertise in one or more of the following:

   Cloud container management and Kubernetes platforms (e.g. EKS, Fargate)

   Cloud AI and data platform technologies (e.g. Bedrock, Redshift, Kinesis, Glue)

   Application architecture and development in the cloud (e.g. .NET Core, Java, etc. in Elastic Beanstalk, Lightsail, or containers)

   Core Cloud infrastructure - Networking (e.g. Direct Connect, Cloud WAN), Security (e.g. AWS Network Firewall, 3rd party ISVs), Compute, and Storage

   CI/CD pipeline development using Infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform, Ansible) and agile tools (e.g. AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions)

Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, etc.

Fluent understanding of Agile and/or ITIL

Understanding of Cloud cost models and optimisation strategies

Experience working with and integrating other vendors such as VMware, Palo Alto, NetApp, Red Hat and other cloud technologies and ISVs

Experience and working knowledge of infrastructure concepts and technologies such as Virtualisation, Networking, Data Center, and Security
