Lloyd's are seeking to recruit a Lead Actuary (Reserving). You will act as a senior deputy for the Head of Reserving, providing strategic leadership and coordination of market-wide reserving oversight. The role ensures high‑quality actuarial insight, operational excellence, and clear communication of market performance while managing key stakeholder relationships, shaping the wider actuarial oversight agenda in alignment with Lloyd’s strategic objectives, and supporting the strategic and people leadership agenda of the Reserving function.


Principal Accountabilities

Market Oversight

  • Works with Technical Specialist Actuary to identify and understand which syndicates are driving performance or deviations in each class.

  • Own the overall Global Central Reserving Exercise (GCRE) results, including high-level review of LOB outcomes and communication to the market.

  • Leads analysis, reporting, and governance.

  • Provide actuarial inputs into and sets expectations for Market Communications, Reserving Forum, London Market Actuaries group (LMAG)/General Insurance Research Organisation (GIRO) engagement, Non-Executive Directors (NED) and Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) materials, Committee Packs.

  • Own the Quarterly Business Review (QBR) process for the reserving team.

  • Own the Quarterly Business Review (QBR) process for the reserving team.


Reserve Risk

  • Own the Quarterly Business Review (QBR) process for the reserving team.


Operational Excellence & Project Management

  • Oversee project management across the reserving cycle, ensuring smooth operations, clear timelines, and proactive issue resolution (working with the MRC operations team).

  • Lead on strategically critical programmes where senior involvement is required. Responsible for delivery of Market Oversight Group (MOG)/Oversight Review Group (ORG) materials

  • Support the development and maintenance of the Oversight Framework, working closely with Risk and the Head of Reserving.

  • Contribute to the design and application of the Principles-based Oversight (PBO) framework

  • Provision of input for materials to discuss with rating agencies, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of actuarial materials.


Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Build strong working relationships with Underwriting, Syndicate Performance, Risk, Exposure Management, and other key internal teams.

  • Act as the senior representative for the Reserving function  in cross-department meetings, committees, and market engagements.

  • Provide clear, high-quality communication of actuarial insights to both technical and non-technical audiences


Leadership & People Management

  • Line manage a group of L13 and L12 team members

  • Lead stand-ups and support the organisation of team meetings and wider team communications.

  • Drive capability development across the function, shaping talent pipelines & coaching.

  • Shadow senior leadership and support the Head of Reserving with wider departmental leadership responsibilities.

  • Act as Head of Reserving proxy during periods of absence/annual leave.

  • Conduct objectives setting, mid-year and year-end performance reviews.

  • Foster team well-being, inclusion, and -high-performance culture.


Governance & Risk

  • Support risk appetite assessments and reporting for the area, ensuring frameworks are adhered to and well understood.

  • Ensure compliance with internal governance standards and external regulatory expectations.

  • Provide challenge and  input into key controls, documentation, and audit processes


Skills Knowledge and Experience

 

  • Experience working in the Lloyd’s Market

  • Track record of engaging with senior stakeholders, syndicates, or external market bodies.

  • Influential and collaborative, with no need for formal line management authority.

  • Strong understanding of Lloyd’s syndicates, market behaviours, and major classes of business.

  • Proactive, strategic thinker with an eye toward emerging risks and future developments.

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving clarity in complex technical subjects.

  • Qualified actuary with extensive post-qualification experience in reserving or related actuarial fields.
