Lloyd’s are recruiting for Technical Lead Actuary (Reserving). You will provide senior technical leadership and market-facing oversight of syndicate reserving, delivering expert challenge, strategic insight, and high-quality actuarial standards across the Lloyd’s market.


Principal Accountabilities

 

Technical Syndicate Level Oversight

  • Provide quorum and expert input to the Actuarial Oversight Review Group (AORG) which reviews the outcomes and recommendations from syndicate investigation as well as triaging syndicates for review.

  • Provide senior direction, expert judgement and challenge across Syndicate Investigations and Model Loss Ratio (MLR) reviews for the Capital & Planning process (CPG).

  • Lead deep dives, thematic reviews, and walkthroughs on key reserving topics

  • Provide technical review of selected assumptions and methods for our market level reserving exercise

  • Hold responsibility for risk identification and challenge process for oversight decisions, ensuring emerging risks are surfaced early.

  • Maintain oversight and provide expert judgement on Stress and Scenario Testing (SST)

  • Take ownership of ad-hoc reserving oversight, e.g. on major catastrophe reserving or systemic reserving issues

  • Hold expert knowledge across all key lines of business from a market perspective


Syndicate Engagement

  • Provide a authoritative insight into  Lloyd’s syndicates, their outlooks, and current/emerging issues under investigation.

  • Lead direct conversations with syndicates on technical reserving matters, methodologies, and assumptions.

  • Act as a Point of Contact (POC) for selected syndicates as required and lead Point of Contact (PoC) discussions, oversight meetings/workshops/’deep-dive’ review meetings with syndicates and other stakeholders

  • Act as the recognised technical authority in the market-facing forums, ensuring clarity and consistency of Lloyd’s expectations. Attend selected London Market Actuaries (LMA) working groups to represent technical viewpoints.


Technical Standards & Methodology

  • Set and champion updates to reserving guidance, including Actuarial Function Reports Own the technical relationship with the signing actuaries, including responsibility for statement of actuarial opinion margin comparison processes.

  • Provide technical reserving training for stakeholders across the business

  • Maintain strong connections with other analytical, underwriting, and risk teams to ensure alignment of methodologies and assumptions, e.g. feed into appropriate WG such as Underwriting, Capital, Actuarial, Reinsurance & Exposure Management Working Group (UCARE).


Strategic Leadership

  • Shape and influence the future direction of the strategy around emerging technical risks, methods, data quality, diagnostics, and best practice.

  • Define and develop the overarching technical roadmap for bottom up reserving and syndicate-focused work.

  • Identify and escalate emerging risks, industry changes, and areas requiring future attention.

  • Ensure technical alignment across functions and support the Head of Reserving and senior leadership in strategic decision-making.

  • Contribute to the development of the long term strategy for syndicate analytics and reserving excellence.


Skills Knowledge and Experience

 

  • Experience of stakeholder management at senior levels

  • Experience working in the Lloyd’s Market

  • Deep Understanding of Lloyd’s syndicates, market behaviours, and major classes of business.

  • Capability across reserving techniques, diagnostics, and assumption setting.

  • Proven ability to conduct and interpret technical reviews, thematic analyses, and actuarial deep dives.

  • Track record of engaging with senior stakeholders, syndicates, or external market bodies.

  • Influential and collaborative, with no need for formal line management authority.

  • Proactive, strategic thinker with an eye toward emerging risks and future developments.

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving clarity in complex technical subjects

  • Qualified actuary with extensive post-qualification experience in reserving or related actuarial fields.
