About the role
We are looking for a Junior Legal Counsel to join our in-house Legal team and support the delivery of commercial and regulatory legal work across the business.
This role is ideal for a recently qualified or early-career lawyer (typically 0-3years PQE) who is looking to gain broad, hands-on experience in a regulated financial services environment, working closely with experienced legal colleagues and a wide range of internal stakeholders.
This position is based in London, UK.
Requirements
- Support the Legal team in providing accurate, timely and practical legal advice across commercial and regulatory matters affecting the business.
- Assist with drafting, reviewing and updating a wide range of legal documents, including client agreements, terms & conditions, vendor and consultancy agreements, NDAs and intra-group documentation, and other legal documentation.
- Support negotiations by preparing mark-ups, issue lists and summaries of key legal and commercial points.
- Assist with legal review of external communications, including marketing materials, website content and client-facing documentation.
- Conduct legal research on UK, EU and international legislation relevant to fintech, payments and financial services, and help translate findings into practical guidance.
- Support the identification and assessment of legal and regulatory risks linked to business decisions, products, services, markets and counterparties.
- Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of legal policies, procedures, templates and internal guidance.
- Support regulatory audits, health checks and information requests, working closely with Risk, Fraud and AML teams.
- Help manage relationships with external legal counsel by coordinating inputs, documents and follow-ups.
- Maintain accurate legal records, documentation and audit trails in line with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Product, Sales, Operations, Finance, AML, Risk, Fraud and HR to support day-to-day legal needs.
- Act as a backup to other members of the Legal team when required and support ad-hoc legal projects as requested by senior legal colleagues.
- Contribute to process improvements and legal operations initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and consistency.
- A law degree and early-career legal experience (in-house or private practice).
- Strong interest in commercial law, regulatory law or financial services.
- Good understanding of contracts and legal documentation, or a strong desire to develop this area.
- Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- A proactive, reliable and collaborative approach to work.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
- Willingness to learn, take ownership and grow within an in-house legal function.
