We are seeking two enthusiastic and proactive IT Support Engineers to join our IT Services team at Wallingford and Lancaster. The successful candidate will have strong technical troubleshooting skills, a passion for technology, and a commitment to delivering excellent IT support across the organisation.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing first and second line technical support to UKCEH staff, ensuring that hardware, software, and IT systems operate efficiently. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to diagnose and resolve technical issues, support new system deployments, and help maintain secure and reliable IT infrastructure that underpins UKCEH’s environmental research and operations.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience supporting a wide range of technologies within a research-focused environment. You will work alongside experienced IT professionals to support the digital tools and infrastructure used by scientists, researchers, and operational teams across the UK and internationally.
Your main responsibilities will include:
• Provide 1st/2nd line technical support, and escalating where necessary, for the delivery of a stable IT service, helping to ensure that it is efficient, effective and can adapt to changing circumstances.
• Working to the service standards and processes defined by IT leadership
• Comply with IT policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
• Act as an IT support contact for internal and external stakeholders, to provide 1st and 2nd line technical support to assist in the effective delivery of fixes, changes and projects
• Involvement in end user aspects of multiple cross-functional initiatives and projects to ensure that business objectives are delivered in line with agreed targets.
As an IT Support Engineer, we’re looking for somebody who has:
• IT related qualification or relevant 1st/2nd line support experience
• Experience of working in a technical environment
• Ability to interact with all levels of UKCEH combined with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple to understand terms.
• Strong problem solving skills
• Excellent customer service skill, developed within a busy working environment
