Job Description

As an Investment Business Development Consultant, you’ll play an important role in growing the use of AJ Bell Investments across new and existing adviser firms. You’ll build relationships, uncover opportunities and help advisers understand where our Managed Portfolio Service (MPS), multi-asset funds and partnership investment solutions could meet their needs. Working closely with our investment and platform sales teams, you’ll turn conversations into well-qualified opportunities and help build sustainable investment flows, while supporting the good customer outcomes at the heart of Feel Good Investing.

What you'll do

  • Build and develop relationships with adviser firms, understanding their investment propositions, client needs, existing providers and review cycles.
  • Generate and qualify new investment opportunities through proactive outreach, referrals and marketing activity, progressing them through to clear next steps.
  • Explain our MPS, multi-asset funds and partnership investment solutions clearly and confidently, using a consultative approach to understand where they could meet an adviser firm’s requirements.
  • Own and progress a portfolio of adviser relationships and sales opportunities, contributing to agreed investment flow and regional targets.
  • Work closely with Investment Business Development Managers and regional platform sales teams on larger or more complex opportunities, coordinating research, meetings and follow-up.
  • Support adviser research and due diligence, helping firms access the information they need on investment approach, risk, performance and charges.
  • Develop existing relationships by identifying opportunities for wider adoption, while spotting concerns or potential asset-retention risks early.
  • Keep accurate CRM and pipeline information, using sales, asset and flow data to prioritise opportunities and share useful adviser and competitor insight with the wider team.

What you'll bring

  • Experience in an adviser-facing investment, business development or sales role within financial services.
  • A good understanding of the UK financial adviser, investment and platform market.
  • Knowledge of investment solutions such as Managed Portfolio Services (MPS) and multi-asset funds, with the ability to explain investment approach, risk and charges clearly.
  • Strong consultative sales skills, with the ability to ask the right questions, understand an adviser firm’s needs and identify relevant opportunities.
  • Confident, professional communication skills across telephone, video and written channels, with the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • A proactive approach to generating leads, progressing opportunities and securing clear next steps.
  • Strong organisation and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and maintain accurate CRM records.
  • An investment or financial planning qualification would be useful, or you'll be willing to work towards one.
