Overview

About the Role & Team

IDC’s Telecom Research team is looking for a Satellite Research Intern to support our coverage of one of the fastest-evolving areas in global connectivity: the convergence of terrestrial and satellite networks. As CSPs forge new partnerships with satellite operators and explore direct-to-device and non-terrestrial network services to extend and diversify their networks, our research helps clients navigate this shift with confidence. Working alongside senior analysts on our global CSP research team, the successful candidate will gain hands-on exposure to a niche but rapidly growing segment of the telecom industry, contribute directly to published research, and build a strong foundation in technology market analysis at IDC

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor and track developments in the satellite communications and non-terrestrial network market, including low-earth-orbit constellations, direct-to-device services, and the convergence of terrestrial and satellite networks
  • Support senior analysts in researching and drafting market analyses, forecasts, and reports covering the satellite strategies of communications service providers and satellite operators
  • Track and summarize partnership announcements, investments, and regulatory developments involving CSPs, satellite operators, and hyperscale cloud providers (hyperscalers)
  • Conduct secondary research using company filings, press releases, and industry sources to support market sizing and forecast models
  • Help prepare presentations, briefing documents, and data visualizations for research publications and client interactions
  • Maintain trackers of key satellite industry announcements, launches, and CSP-satellite initiatives to support the wider research team
  • Provide general research support to the Telecom Research team, including note-taking, meeting summaries, and follow-up on analyst inquiries and vendor briefings

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Business, Engineering, Economics, or a related field
  • No formal work experience required; exposure to the telecommunications, satellite, or wider technology sector through coursework, projects, or a prior internship is an advantage
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint; familiarity with data analysis or market research tools is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills, intellectual curiosity, close attention to detail, and the ability to work independently within a global, fast-paced team
  • Desired work model: Hybrid, based in the London, UK office
