Our people are: Accountable, customer-obsessed, collaborative, driven

Our people are not: Passive, defensive, siloed, hesitant.

About the role

As Insurance Accounting/Finance Director on our Finance Team, you will own the accounting and settlement engine for the insurance side of the business. Premium collected but not yet remitted, claims funded but not yet recovered, loss funds, ceding fees, profit share, commission where we hold the cash, and a captive carrier inside the group. You will own the fiduciary asset and liability position, how it is recorded, how it is settled, how it is reconciled, and whether we can stand behind it in an audit.

To drive success in this role, you will be a qualified accountant with direct ownership of insurance technical accounting, experience of segregated or fiduciary client money, and a track record of taking a process from spreadsheet-based to system-based and making it stick.

As the Director you will set the accounting policy positions, document them, and defend them to our auditors under both IFRS and US GAAP, while leading a team of five across underwriter settlements, captive and insurance accounting, and credit control. Regular collaboration with the Insurance, Treasury, Financial Systems and Actuarial teams, and directly with our carrier panel, will be key to delivering settlement accuracy, collection performance and a control set that survives external testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own technical insurance accounting end to end: premium and claims recognition, ceding fees, profit share, loss funds, commission and bonus accounting, and the accounting interface with actuarial

  • Own the full accounting result of our captive carrier, including the technical reserves interface, intercompany reinsurance flows, and the controls around them. This is currently the least systematised area of the group and carries the most remediation work

  • Own underwriter settlements and bordereaux: production, dispatch and reconciliation across a large and growing carrier panel, settlement accuracy and timeliness, and the current account position with each carrier

  • Own claims recoveries across a substantial receivables book, allocating received cash down to transaction level so that the ledger, the claims bordereau and the bank agree

  • Replace spreadsheet-dependent processes with system-based controls, design and document the control set for this cycle, and carry it through internal and external testing

  • Set and document the group's insurance and captive accounting policy positions, and defend them to our auditors under both IFRS and US GAAP

  • Lead and develop a team of five spanning underwriter settlements, captive and insurance accounting.

To help us level up, you'll ideally have:

  • Qualified accountant (RA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) or demonstrably equivalent depth

  • Direct ownership of insurance technical accounting: premium, claims, ceding, profit share or reinsurance, gained in a captive, an MGA, a broker, an insurer's finance function, or a high-volume transaction business with fiduciary obligations such as a payment processor or bank

  • Experience with segregated or fiduciary client money, and the reconciliation discipline that goes with it

  • Has managed a mid-sized team of five or more, ideally across multiple locations, and has taken a process from spreadsheet-based to system-based and made it stick

  • Audit-facing experience under IFRS or US GAAP, including defending judgemental positions. Bordereau production or ingestion at scale across a multi-carrier panel, captive or reinsurance exposure, and public-company readiness or SOX-equivalent control frameworks are all strongly preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. A postgraduate degree and/or record of academic achievement is also desirable. English is our working language
