About the position 
 
This is primarily a technical support role within our systems administration group. We have a mixed environment spread across our physical and virtual computing landscape. This role focuses on the desktop environment providing technical support for our automated setup.
 
We are looking for responsible and passionate people to start or continue their careers in infrastructure. This role will allow for the opportunity to work alongside and learn from our senior technologists and for the individual to learn / improve their automation skills (specifically python). Our business is constantly changing and we need people to help maintain our networks and our computing environment.

Hard Skills Requirements

  • You should be motivated to find the best solutions to problems of all sizes, whether they require visiting data centers or crawling under desks.
  • A solid knowledge of PC hardware and computer internals, being able to troubleshoot workstation OS (Linux), applications, peripherals, network and audio-visual issues.
  • Minimum 2 years prior desktop support or related experience
  • The ability to analyse, troubleshoot and resolve hardware failures
  • A working knowledge of Linux command-line required
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Ability to work well as part of a team that supports production, back office computing and end-user support functions
  • Experience with hardware monitoring and performance tuning.
  • The aptitude to maintain a personable and professional relationship in all user interactions (walk-ups, inquiries, desk-side visits and status calls)
  • High energy and the drive to meet the needs of a demanding environment
  • Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail is required
  • An educational background in computer science or IT (preferred)
  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Data center connectivity
  • Understanding of TCP/IP Networking
  • Ability to lift 40 – 50 pounds in weight
  • Ability to work weekend and evening shifts when required

Nice to have skills:

  • Familiarity with Linux servers
  • Networking, DNS, DHCP, VLAN
  • Python
