About the Position

This is a core technical role within our Infrastructure Engineering team, responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and scaling a mixed environment spread across our physical and virtual computing landscape. This role focuses on owning and advancing our server and network infrastructure, providing high-level technical support for our systems, and driving our automated setups.

We are looking for a responsible, proactive infrastructure professional ready to take ownership of our computing environment. In this role, you will collaborate with senior engineers to scale our systems while actively developing and deploying automation solutions (specifically Python). Our business is constantly changing, and you will play a critical role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving our networks, routing protocols, and computing systems.

Wintermute provides excellent opportunities for individuals to deeply expand their automation and network infrastructure engineering skills.

Hard Skills Requirements:

  • Problem-Solving & Agility: Motivated to find the best solutions to problems of all sizes, whether they require managing data centre connectivity or hands-on hardware troubleshooting.

  • Network & Data Centre Foundations: Solid understanding of data centre connectivity, structured cabling, and core TCP/IP networking concepts (IPv4/IPv6, subnetting).

  • Cisco Networking: Hands-on experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco switches (e.g., Catalyst or Nexus series).

  • OS & Hardware Expertise: Solid, practical knowledge of server hardware, network appliances, and computer internals. Proven ability to troubleshoot server OS (Linux), enterprise applications, and network infrastructure issues.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of systems administration, network infrastructure engineering, or related experience.

  • Network Troubleshooting: Experience diagnosing network performance issues, packet loss, and latency using tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, or traceroute.

  • Hardware Lifecycle: Demonstrated ability to analyse, troubleshoot, and resolve complex hardware failures, performance bottlenecks, and component issues.

  • Version Control: Familiarity and hands-on experience with Git workflow.

  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work seamlessly as part of a team that supports mission-critical production systems and back-office core infrastructure functions.

  • Performance Management: Experience with hardware/network monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, SNMP) and performance tuning.

  • Professional Communication: Aptitude to maintain a professional and clear relationship in all collaborative technical interactions, inquiries, and status updates.

  • Organisation: Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Flexibility & Support: Ability to work weekend and evening shifts, and provide out-of-business-hours support when required for infrastructure deployments, critical incidents, or maintenance windows.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Security & Firewalls: Experience deploying, configuring, and monitoring enterprise Firewalls and Access Control Lists (ACLs) to secure network perimeters.

  • Routing Protocols: Basic familiarity with enterprise routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, or static routing environments.

  • Server Administration: Familiarity with enterprise Linux server environments and automated deployment tools.

  • Automation: Practical experience writing scripts in Python to automate repetitive network administration, Cisco provisioning, and infrastructure tasks.

Here is why you should join our dynamic team:

  • Opportunity to work at one of the world's leading algorithmic trading firms.

  • Engaging projects offering accelerated responsibilities and ownership compared to traditional finance environments.

  • A vibrant working culture with team meals, festive celebrations, gaming events and company wide team building events.

  • A Wintermute-inspired office in central London & Singapore, featuring an array of amenities such as table tennis and foosball, personalized desk configurations, a cozy team breakout area with games.

  • Great company culture: informal, non-hierarchical, ambitious, highly professional with a startup vibe, collaborative and entrepreneurial.

  • A performance-based compensation with a significant earning potential alongside standard perks like pension and private health insurance.
